• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

After almost 3 years of trying to document and figure out what was going on with my son he was diagnosed with Aspergers. I guess now the real work begins, working with the schools to get services in place. I don't expect much to happen before the end of this school year, but it should all be in place for when he starts 3rd grade next year.

Does anyone have any advice on helpful books or resources to help with the IEP process?

Advice is all over the map. The best thing you can do is pray for wisdom [James 1:5, 6] and interact with those who claim to be educated in the subject. Many of them contradict each other. That is why you should have your prayer ears on.

If a course of action doesn't have a down side, it's worth a try, but it still might not be affective. Suggestions of vitamins and mineral water, while they might improve PHYSICAL health, are just "snake oil" in the treatment of ASDs.

I have Asperger's Syndrome as does my youngest DS (7), so I know a little bit about his motivations, but I am still grappling with how best to train him. I have a DD (13) and a DS (20) who are more developmentally delayed with a mental age of 24 mos. and 6-10 yrs., respectively.
