I read There are very few who are chosen and for whose lives God sets a special purpose
Jesus does say few there are that find the straight and narrow way.

But the part about being chosen is not about certain people having special merit and status because of how they got their own selves to somehow find the straight and narrow way. Being chosen has to do with how first our Heavenly Father was so pleased with His Son Jesus, before the world began. And He chose to have children whom He would conform to the image of His Son > Romans 8:29.

So, the One, really, who is chosen is Jesus. And then comes how our Father changes us to be like Jesus so we are pleasing like He is.

And God does not have this plan for everyone. But He does have His purpose for each and every individual. Romans 9:21 > there are vessels for different purposes.

Does it mean potentially the entire human race could be saved but only a minority are evangelized and prayed for?

It means GOD came to save the champions (Matthew 7:13-14, Mark 4:13-20). Just like in the Olympics there are few champions compared to all the players in the game.
It still will be many in the body of Christ( 1 Corinthians 12:12-27) but it will be few compared to all the people that have lived. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

So GOD came to save the few that loved HIM.

Potentially even people like osama bin laden could have been saved, if they were evangelized. I'm not saying "people go to hell because christians dont evangelize" people are responsible for their own behavior-but a good guess is the verse refers to few being chosen for their soul's harvest.

One needs to put "all the counsel of God" together to appreciate what God is saying. In Matt. 22:14 and all such statements, it clearly speaks of the "foreknowledge" of God. He well knows the end from the beginning, and who will respond to the Gospel message. Yes, all mankind is called, but relatively few will respond in faith and be saved. You and I cannot know the fullness of God's ways and works for each individual soul, so those of us who are saints of God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, must be preaching salvation in Jesus, the Christ of God, to all souls. God will apply His holy Word to those who hear, and all who do not want to hear will go on and perish.

Salvation is about a personal relationship with the Savior ---the Lord Jesus, which pleases God --the Father. He says: "He that hath the Son hath (eternal) life, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not (that) life" (note 1 Jn. 5:10-12). A serious seeker can see the truth of this more fully in John 14. I recommend one be a serious seeker.

It's the exact opposite of what you say. The bible says, "For many are called but few are chosen." And also it says,

But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” ~Romans 10:18

This is saying that the gospel message is spread over all the earth; meaning that everyone is evangelized to. So everyone hears the call to God but few are chosen from that call.
