I don't like to get too into politics, but I too hear some of the things and take them to the Lord. Doing this (taking all thought captive to Him) is what discipleship and following the Lord is all about.

The Lord talked to me about how it was after I first got to know Him, and asked me to write on this.

Indeed, one of the biggest things that changed in my life shortly after I got to know Him was a significant change in how I looked at things!! That is to say that after I got to know Him, 'God', it changed what I fear!!!!

Knowing Jesus Christ means knowing that He is indeed God!!!

We Christian say things like 'If God is for us who can be against us?" But it is the actually knowing Him that gets this message across in your spirit!!

If you know Him, you fear Him and not say, the Covid virus. That doesn't mean you don't use wisdom! God is wisdom. He told me to wear a mask, in order that other people would feel comfortable around you. That was wisdom. Who knows - it might even keep me from getting the virus, though He could keep that from happening also. Of course, if He asked me to wear that mask to make people fell comfortable around me and I didn't He might then cause me to get the virus to teach me to listen to Him and stop being rebellious. So I fear Him, listen to Him, and tend to do what He askes of me!!

The point is that if you fear God, you listen to Him personally and do what He asks. By that i mean you seek His voice everyday for what He has to say to you. Going day, after day, after day, and not seeking Him and His instructions is not fearing God. Which makes me wonder how is it that this virus has hit the USA, a supposed Christians nation, as bad as it has?

Deut 28:58,59 “If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the LORD your God, then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even [fn]severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses.

Deuteronomy 28:58-64, "If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God— the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt [COVID-19 wasn't around in ancient Egypt] that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you [disobedient Jews only] are destroyed. You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the Lord your God. Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess. Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other."

It is always a mistake to take a section of Scripture like the above -- clearly written to the Hebrews who were under the Old Covenant law -- and misapply it to the world today, especially to Christians. The non-believing Jews were ruined and destroyed, uprooted from Judah/Israel, and scattered among all nations. That has zero to do with COVID-19, which kills without regard to age, gender, nationality, etc., including believing Christians.

Taking God's Word out of context and misapplying it is a serious sin.

"If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God

Taking God's Word out of context and misapplying it is a serious sin.

"If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God

What does it mean "glorious and awesome name - the Lord your God?

Romans 10:9,10 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

The Lord has not changed!! Yeah, He took on flesh and went to the cross which help us, but that does not mean that the Lord's personality has changed, or that He was the Lord our God then but not now. That did not change from the Old Testament to the New Testament. He was "the Lord your God" then and is still the Lord. That has nothing to do with any covenant, but do you know Him as your Lord if you are not listening to Him?

Rev 19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

His name is and was called the Word of God, and He is not the Scriptures! So what is meant by the person who writes "Taking God's Word out of context and misapplying it is a serious sin."

He is not an "it", He is a person - Jesus Christ!!

So the person taking "God's Word" out of context is the person who thinks God's Word is an "it" instead of a Him!!

Does a person like that know Him as their Lord if they are not getting instructions from Him? If they don't they don't listen to Him then perhaps the Sacred text becomes the Word of God to them, instead of Him whose name is called the Word of God, because they don't hear His voice so all they have is the words written down from those who do hear from Him, just like the Lord explained through Isaiah.

He who said to them, “Here is rest, give rest to the weary,” And, “Here is repose,” but they would not listen. So the word of the LORD to them will be, “Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there,” That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.

Isaiah, hearing the Lord, explained that if they didn't listen then the word of the Lord to them will be,,, Line on line, line on line! And that so they would go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive

The Scriptures are worth reading so that we might know that Jesus is the Word of God we preach because we can hear from Him. We hear His words in our heart and mouth, because His words are spirit, not the ink on pages. and so they are spoken to us via His Holy Spirit to our spirit. That is exactly who those who wrote the Bible heard them. But your reading the words they heard, is not you hearing from the Lord our God! It is you reading what He spoke to those who wrote them.

It is worth reading them!!

You can figure from reading their words that you need to hear His words for yourself. That is, the Scriptures are able to give you wisdom to find salvation which is through Jesus Christ. Yet people back then, like today, search the Scriptures think in them they will get eternal life, when it was them that were testifying about Jesus Christ - that His sheep hear His voice, that His name is called the Word of God, that His words our found in our heart, and so that we can personally know Him as our Lord.

So it is the the foremost command back then was "Hear, O Israel' and it is still the foremost command.

That is why I wrote:
So I fear Him, listen to Him, and tend to do what He askes of me!!

Yet someone else writes:

Taking God's Word out of context and misapplying it

I get instructions from my Lord Jesus Christ. That is why I call Him my Lord, because He gives me instruction. I might misunderstand what he told me, but it is hard to take is out of context because I hear Him when I hear Him and we talk about what we are talking about. So the context is always Him and I talking together with Him being my Lord.

So I started by asking : What does it mean "glorious and awesome name - the Lord your God?

To me it means I call Him Lord because He talks to me giving me instructions and teachings, and that is awesome that God should talk a regular person like me.

It seems like to others that means that He talked to other people a couple of thousand years ago and either died or is in heaven so that He left us a book (an 'It) as His word, instead of His Holy Spirit who talks to our spirit, even about the book.

How did Moses put it?

Deut 30:19,20 “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

Perhaps that is taken out of context to them, but that is exactly the context of Him in my life today.

This doesn't even merit a response, as it is a serious distortion of Scripture.

Noting that the Word of God we preach is a "serious distortion of Scripture?

People - Jesus Christ is the Word of God and God we preach and He said He would never leave us. He has always been the Word of God and He has always been near us. His personality has never change, so you need to fear Him.

You need to fear Him as God. You need to fear Him as a son would fear their Father. You need to fear Him as the King of kings. None of that does not mean that He is not love, nor that He cannot or does not wish to be your friend. All things were made through Him so He loves us. He is omni-present and so is always with you so you can be His friend. You need to believe in Him, because there is a place called hell and those who have chosen to rebel against Him instead of making Him their King and friend will be thrown into hell. Those who choose to believe in Him and so make Him their King, Lord, and friend will be taken to heaven. And we have access to the King and thus the Kingdom of God now. His sheep hear His voice, now.

The Scriptures explain all this to us. So they are worth reading, but a distortion of the Scriptures is a distortion of these basic fact. His personality has never changed!! He is still the King of kings. So people are still going to hell. He is King of kings so people are still His control whether that know it or not. It is still easier for heaven and earth to fall away than one letter of the Law. That does not mean we live through the Law but man must live by every word that proceeds from His mouth and He stands at the door speaking to you with His voice.

Still, there were and still are many who are not willing to hear Him and open up to Him. There were and still are those who search the Scriptures because they think that in them they have eternal life instead of coming to Him and listening to what He has to say to them. They distort the Scriptures!!

He, the Word of God (Jesus Christ) told the people back then:

Deut 28:58,59 “If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the LORD your God, then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses.

We also read:

Rev 9:18 A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues...
and
Rev 11:3 & 6 And I will grant authority to my two witnesses... & ...These have the power to... strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire

Now He is a loving God. Indeed, God is love. So how come He made hell and how come He in the past, present, and future brings plagues on us?

It is because you don't fear Him!!!

Rom 3:18 “THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES.”

If you feared God you would be afraid to not listen to Him who is always with you!
If people feared God they would not be doing all those evil things you see being done today!!!

Look - He is a loving God. I know Him and I don't know anyone who is a loving, forgiving, patient, kind, caring, as He is. Yet I also know He discipline those He loves in this life, and He will be having some thrown into the lake of fire.

I remember who I was once mad at Him and told Him, "What are you going to do, hit me upside the head?" And He did hit me upside the head!! I know how He did it but instantly I felt someone slap me in the temple of the head, and I was alone in my car.

Another time I had been arguing with Him back and forth for a while and one day He told me I was going to pay for that. Then suddenly I had all sorts of things going out on me. I had to get a washer. My car had to get repairs for three different things in a couple of weeks. I think I had to spend $800 in just a couple of weeks on a bunch of items.

He is still God. He is still King of kings. The heavens and the earth are still His. And He is still running the show. He, the Word of God, is still alive and active.

So why do some think He will not bring bad things on them? Why does a governor say "You have got to fear Covid?"

It is because they don't look to the Lord because they fear Him!!

God could make the Covid go away. Even the foolish Pharaoh was smart enough to call on Moses and ask him to intercede with God so see if God might remove the plagues. Yet instead of massive pray rallies we have massive protests. Instead of seeking forgiveness we cast blame. Instead of turning people to Jesus Christ the Lord our God we say turn to the Scriptures and say they have distorted them if someone says they hear from Him. Do you not know that even in these times the USA would have been pretty much done with this if we had been a repentant people instead of a rebellious people. What have your heard?

It's odd that NOWHERE IN YOUR POST IS THE WORD 'LOVE' found.

Go ahead and regard your loving Father with FEAR, but, since it's contrary to the New Covenant, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!

Did you not read about fearing God and loving God going hand in hand?

Deut 10:12 “Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

Oh - perhaps you think that has something to do with a covenant instead of a relationship?

The Opening Post was about fearing God, and about how that should lead us to listen to Him. I did not go over how it is by listening to Him that you learn to love Him, but I have covered that in other posts and it is in the Scriptures you are depending on.

If you love God you will fear Him! If you fear Him you will listen to Him! If you listen to Him you will find out that He loves you! If He loves you, you will love Him because He loved you first! Not one of those things mentioned in this paragraph has anything to do with a "Covenant" !!! They do all however have to do we a relationship with God. Yet a person can read the Scriptures and not love Him, listen to Him, or fear Him. What would a person like that look like?

When you accept the New Covenant, I'll possibly discuss things with you further. Until then, "love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength" and give up the fear stuff (unless you enjoy fear?)

USA, a supposed Christians nation, as bad as it has?

Not to my knowledge - and to quote my husband: "not for a very long time has this nation been a Christian nation."
Don't believe what you hear from the media. Test everything.

Otherwise I agree with everything else you have said apart from the passage about the Law. That didn't match with what you were talking about. I think what you meant is this: Proverbs 9:10

The "New Covenant"- 2 Cor 3:6 :who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Is the same covenant He had with Abram who heard from the Lord and was counted as righteous because he heard and believed

Gen 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

My friend - there are a few things about what we call "The New Covenant". First of all, it is not "New"! Second, it is based on hearing the God, believing it is Him, and thus making Him your Lord, as opposed to reading letters in a book. Third is that it definitely has an element of fear in it!

A Covenant is an agreement, and one that is usually passed down. Usually it has to do with land. For example: I once bought a house in a new track of houses. Instead of having a home owner's association the developers put covenants on the land. The covenants were agreements that came with the purchase which require the buyers to maintain the land and house to certain standards and includes such this as to what colors of paint were acceptable. The covenants were passed on even when the house was sold.

So a covenant is usually formal, solemn, and binding agreement. So an agreement/covenant with God has an element of fear in it, because what could and would happen if you don't keep up your end of it, considering God would be the One enforcing it??

You see this "New Covenant" way back in Genesis chapter 15.

Gen 15:18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying,
“To your descendants I have given this land,
From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:

That was the land the God gave Abram, but what was Abram's part of the covenant? Remember, it is not a deal or "covenant" if both parties agree to something!

Someone might think that Abram's part was to bring certain things that the Lord told him:

Gen 15:9 So He said to him, “Bring Me a three year old heifer, and a three year old female goat, and a three year old ram, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”

That is they might think that Abram purchased the land from God with a three year old heifer, goat, ram, turtledove, and a young pigeon. Yet that is not quite the case. Abram purchased the land with His obedience. The deal was the if Abram listened to the Lord and did what He said then He would get the land. Also, the land in question is not quite the land you think it is!

At the beginning of Gen 15 we find out that the word of the Lord was appearing to Abram in a vision.

Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying,
“Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.”

That is where the "New Covenant" is starting to be set up! Since this deal is done in a vision, the land and such in question is spiritual not physical. There is a physical symbolism, but the real land in question is a heavenly land - The Kingdom of God. And the real agreement is that if we listen to His voice and do what He says by faith, then we will be His people and He will be our Lord and God, and as such we have a promise of heaven. That is the "New Covenant."

So what is the "Old Covenant". It comes years after the "New Covenant" and comes about when Moses brought God's people (those under the covenant with Abram) to the foot of the mountain of God to listen to God and thus fulfill their end of the covenant made with Abram. The problem was that the people did not want to listen to this fearful God who made the mountain smoke and quake.

Ex 20:19 Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die.”

So God gave them another covenant. One in which He would pass down instructions and rules (The Law) through those "prophets" like Moses who were willing to hear from Him (abide by the covenant He had with Abram) In that way, if they could keep the Law given through the prophets, they could still get into the promised land (heaven). Again, the physical land we just symbolic. God is spirit and so His Kingdom is heavenly/spiritual.

The problem was that the people were never going to be able to abide by and keep all the Law!! So they were never going to get into heaven that way. Of course the Law had arraignments for not keeping it. Sacrifices could be made, something like the sacrifices made with the "New Covenant" made with Abram, years before. Still, even with the sacrifices for their sins all you got was more sin and more dead animals. God did not really want a bunch of dead physical animals. So He sent His Son to make the sacrifice once and for all. Yet that took the people out of the "Old Covenant" in that the sacrifices for sin were no longer needed, and it put us back under the older "New Covenant" where we need to listen to His voice and be obedient. It took us out of works of the Law and put us back into relationship with God like Abram had.

That still has that element of fear in it. If you choose not to listen to the Lord your God and obey His voice, then you don't get the promise of the Kingdom and all that comes with it. Now I am not talking about getting something wrong, but intentionally choosing to not listen to the Lord. So there is one unforgiveable sin, and that is to choose to not believe and listen to the Lord. Thus the opposite, which is to listen to the Lord and believe the word of the Lord talking to you is what gets you counted as righteous just like Abram.

Again - Gen 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

So again, after covering those covenants which we don't seem to understand very well, it still comes down to listening to the Lord by faith and doing what He asks. If you choose to not to do that then eternal death and hell awaits! And sickness is generally the start of dead in your physical body and can be symbolism by God to catch your attention. That brings up back to the verse you do not want to pay attention to:

Deut 28:58,59 “If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the LORD your God, then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses.

You can't just throw verses out of the Bible because you don't like them. And He didn't keep them in the Bible when they no longer have meaning. If you don't either live perfectly but the written Law (the Old Covenant), which you can't, or choose not to listen to the words of the Lord spoken to you personally and believe (the New Covenant) then you are not under either covenant! Either way you still have to fear this honored and awesome name!!!

I spend so much time just trying to get across a simply message of hearing the Lord by faith and thus believing in Him you can hear!! But His people make is soo hard. 'This covenant, that covenant, new covenant, it's the Law, it's not the Law' - My friends, seek the Lord Jesus Christ and listen to what He has to say! It's that simple, but you can think yourself to death, meaning you spend more time thinking about Him than actually listening to Him. Still - if you fear Him you will seek Him!

Yes - I love the post!!

If you question the people of the USA as to what religion they believe in you will probably still get a majority of people saying the are Christian. I don't know what the stats are now, but it used to be about 80%. But how many are really seeking after the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord?

The OP is not "about the Law' it is about to fear this honored and awesome name, which is why I put in bold that part in the OP. Even if you take out 'the law' we still have to fear and honor His awesome name - The Lord your God - because He is still the Lord your God regardless of the law. So whether we try to live by the letter of the Law or by the law of His mouth (which means listening to Him personally) we still have to fear God because He is God and even more so because He is "the Lord our God".

And so yes - Prov 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Is very appropriate. And let us not forget that it is easier for heaven and earth to fall away than one letter of "The Law". So the Law has to be fulfilled! The believer does that through their personal relationship with the "The Lord our God". So we fear Him, right? If we don't, and perhaps we don't as a nation, then He might put sickness on us - like He said in Deut 28:58,59

So why do we have the sickness in our land? And why do some leaders say fear the virus as opposed to fear the Lord? That was what the OP was about.

Like you write - it does seem that we as a nation have moved away from the Lord!

Yes - I love the post!!

Thanks.

That is a given. Even Christ has said: Matthew 7:22-24, so the stats do not matter because a lot of people are deceived. Jesus knows who are His.

Nope, I understand the OP. That is why the passage doesn't fit, which is why I brought about another verse which makes more sense to what you are talking about. Hope that clears up the confusion.

As you have stated earlier, we live in the Spirit of the Law. When God came in human form as the prophesied Jesus Christ, He fulfilled the Law to make way for something new.

It's odd that NOWHERE IN YOUR POST IS THE WORD 'LOVE' found.

Go ahead and regard your loving Father with FEAR, but, since it's contrary to the New Covenant, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!

I believe you are in great error regarding fearing GOD and especially telling others to have no fear of GOD. We are told to have Godly fear many times in the old and new testament. This thinking of no Godly fear and love only in all it's worldly forms is poisenous in the body of Christ, letting in all forms of abominations in GOD's eyes.

Some scripture below;
5Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!"

4Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested."

6Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth--to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people--
7saying with a loud voice, "Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water."

18The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth."

15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear

17Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him

We no longer look to be served. We look to serve and give our lives for others. No longer fight for privilege, influence and status. We esteem others better than ourselves and put their interests above our own.

Peace be with all those in the body of Christ

This is not a very Christian attitude to have toward a fellow Christian whether you seem them as such or not, even more so, when you talk about love in your responses. In this particular instance you are certainly not in any way showing fruits of the Spirit by using the term "When you accept the New Covenant". In your reply, you are implying the person your talking about is not a Christian as you cannot be a Christian unless you accept the new covenant. We all learn as we go on our journey of faith and are at different levels and none of us are perfect.

May be you have forgotton this in scripture;
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

We no longer look to be served. We look to serve and give our lives for others. No longer fight for privilege, influence and status. We esteem others better than ourselves and put their interests above our own.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him

Peace be with all those in the body of Christ
