  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's not very consistent.

Unless you think the seditionists and police-assaulters deserve clemency for their violent crimes because they were on the president's side, and Cole's motivations are unclear as yet.
I think the difference is that the pipe bombs were active, and not "fake", and that the intention was to kill multiple government officials. That's different from trespassing, and pushing someone out of the way.

...I don't think taking this case more seriously shows inconsistency, because of the difference in severity. Though, CNN seems to be trying as hard as they can to make them the same. I think "making things seem the same" is a very big problem in debate these days.

What happened to seditious conspiracy to overthrow the government and assaulting police officers? This was more than trespassing and 'jostling'. Some of them clearly expressed their desire to hang Mike Pence.

His lawyers should and probably will argue that he is included in Trump's pardon of J6 rioters unless that pardon names each and every individual, which I don't know the answer to. And even then they may still argue it because he was unknown at the time and should have been included.

It does beg the question as to whether Trump would have included him in his pardon if he had been known and why or why not.

It only names the seditious conspirators (who received commutations).

I like the plan, but the announcement of the pardon specified "at or near the United States Capitol," but his lawyers have nothing to lose.
