Oh my gosh, paranoid much? I hope you're joking. Facebook isnt some big thing the government uses to spy on people.

Anyway, I use it a lot. I just don't like it when people block and unfriend me on there.
It has happened to me a few times, especially when they don't bother explaining. I understand why it bothers you.

I have my FB link in my CF profile so people can easily add me, and accept all requests for friends I get from here, but I'm also leery of having people from CF that I don't really talk to. So the people that I sense have added me from CF just for the sake of doing so are likely to be unfriended the next time I clean out my friends list.

I have Facebook, but have recently become a bit funny about it. My compromise is now to have an "empty" account; I'm still on Facebook and still message people, but I do not upload photographs, update my status or do anything with it other than interact with people. It is part paranoia, part realisation that I really do need to keep my internet life exposure to professional exploits only, if that.

But yay for Facebook, it is a fabulous website for people without the paranoid streak/real need for internet anonymity .

The gov'ments already know your details whether you're on facebook or not. Well all the important stuff anyway, like me, don't care what you had for breakfast this morning. They do get alerted when certain words or strings of words have been written, I remember hearing stories about how a guy was arrested because of his comments on twitter. There used to be a site called openbook where you could search words or sentences and it would give you a bunch of status' with those keywords in them. 'Openbook' Lets You Search Facebook Status Updates, Even if You Don't Have an Account
But is that really a bad thing? As long as you don't talk about bombing airplanes you'll be fine.

I have Facebook. I don't post a lot or upload pictures that often.

I doubt that the FBI/CIA is monitoring FB in a Big Brother-like fashion.

Additionally, over the summer my FB was hacked into by someone in Oregon the day after I sent my bank account number and routing number to my sister for a business transaction. As a result, I had to close that account and add additional security measures (every log-in from a different computer requires an additional security code sent to my personal phone). It was really a hassle for me, especially when I started to receive strange text messages on my phone - but I blocked that number. Strongly advise people to put strong protections on their accounts.

If anyone needs anyone to talk to, you know were to hit me up lol!

Who else got facebook?

I'm pretty sure everybody else has facebook here, but most people are pretty leery about who they add.

Like Nom said, I think most of us here do have Facebook, but are very cautious of adding people we haven't actually met IRL. I have Facebook and for the most part I enjoy it. I've only added a small handful of CFers though, only those I feel I trust. Because unlike some people here, I don't have a second Facebook account just for CF people. I only have one Facebook account: my real one. I like to be open and real with everyone. Therefore, I'm very, very cautious about who I add from here on Facebook.

I have but I wish I could delete it, it's infested with lame people saying lame things thinking they'de deep and wise

LOL too true! But you can just delete those annoying people or simply unsubscribe to them (so you won't see anything they post in your newsfeed, but you're still friends with them)! That's what I do!

I have a FB, but I mainly got it to keep in contact with my family and friends from all over. I still have it since that is how I know how family and friends are doing, from moving all over the place. I'm very leary about adding people I don't know well. I have a very small amount of people from here on CF. I also only keep my friends list at a certain number. Once I get over that number, its time to defriend.
I also use it for business purposes. I've heard of the government using it. I don't know how true it is, but that would not surprise me. But if they want to get a hold of someone, they can, with or without social media.

I find it funny those believing that without FB they are "under the radar" to the government.

Like they are snapping their fingers.

You thwarted our plans!!!!

If you want to be "under the radar" don't have :

A real job (you could hide with low paying under the table)
Credit card
Bank account
Social Security number
Cell phone
Electricity
Etc. basically go live in a sewer drain somewhere and live off what you scavenge.

If they want you, facebook doesn't matter when it comes to Gov. it could however make you a target for ID Theft, the more you put out there, the easier it is.

Paranoia is only worth it if it makes a difference.

I have FB but I don't add every tom , sam and Jane I run into I like to know the person a little or actually have some form of communication with them before I add them too many people are all about adding people just to have a gazillion friends on there , I do and would much rather have a few genuine friends then alot I never talk to.

I have a Facebook, and a few CFers on my friends list. They can tell you just how much I post on it, it drives them insane how often I'm on there. /sarcasm....I have a Facebook, I think my last status update was in August and last picture posted was in September. I mainly use Facebook to keep up with people.

I'll usually add people on Facebook once we've had some significant communication (a couple good conversations), and it looks like we're going to have more significant communication in the future (no fly-by-night friends, please).

Re: the gov't and Facebook: the... averageness of my feed, and how I don't post a new Instagrammed picture of my face in a new 70s-esque filter every day, would bore them.
