  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is it that god put us on only one planet?
We don't know that there isn't another planet, we just started with Mars.
Evolution "seems" to suppose thing it doesn't when you don't understand it.

I have been told that when God restores creation all of the planets will have life on them. They are desolate now because of the fall of mankind.

The idea that all planets would have life on them if not for The Fall is one of the more laughable notions I've ever heard.

Yeesh, not only did the fall mess up humanity and all the animals, it wiped the universe of life? Kinda a lot of importance to attach to eating a piece of fruit don't you think?

I'm wondering what the life forms on Jupiter looked like. And those on Mercury, now that I think of it. And Neptune. And Venus.

You know the theory of evolution is on the brink of utter collapse when an uneducated redneck hick from Texas like me can figure it out in just few months...

Well the fact is random mutations have never had anything to with evolution.

The above is from the first post to this thread.

It obviously comes from someone who never read "The Origin of Species" by Darwin. Maybe they don't allow it in your small Texas town.

The theory of evolution PREDATES the genetic understanding of how it operates.

Any scientist can tell you that we knew about evolution long before we could explain it. In truth, we are still trying to work out many of the details. That doesn't make it false. It is still the only viable explanation of the diversity of species we currently find.

I don't know about self-proclaimed Texas rednecks, but I read quite a few science journals and books. Thus, I stay abreast of what "scientists say." And the claim that this sort of thing is some sort of secret is just a lie.

I love how creationists like to give off the impression that scientists really know evolution is wrong, but don't want to admit it. HA! That's so silly it's cute. It's like a little puppy that keeps falling down because it can't walk yet. Or a little boy who can't think yet.

Really, dude. Where do you come up with this stuff? You write good fiction.

The arrogance of this belief is astounding. Now not only are we so important that our actions could wreck an entire planet, we also wrecked an entire universe, and destroyed all life.

Seriously John, humanity is not the center of the universe.

Wow! You bow to Darwin? For most of us, that's a little over the top.

Anyway, welcome to the forums!
Yes, welcome. But with all due respect don't bow to Darwin, lest some creationist use it as evidence that evolution is a religion.

Okay, I have some more questions about evolution. I might have asked them before, so please bear with me.

Evolutionists believe that we came from apes, correct?

Physically we are apes as well, just taxonomic classification. Make sure you don't think of ape as it's used in the common vernacular. We share a common ancestor with other modern apes. The common ancestor between us and chimpanzees (our closest relative) dates to about 6 million years ago IIRC.

Well, the evidence is pretty much undeniable. There are many lines of evidence that support our common ancestry with apes, but my favorite is endogenous retroviruses. Here's a post that describes them:
http://www.christianforums.com/t115...roviral-insertions-and-hominid-evolution.html

Here we have a series of genetic markers that exactly mimic the phylogenic tree. If we didn't descend from apes, there would be no possibility of any class of markers that would exactly mimic the phylogenic tree (provided that class of markers does not presuppose the phylogenic tree in the classification, as ERV's do not).

From what animal did apes evolve from?
This was answered in the other thread you started. I personally don't find it that interesting what specific animals we evolved from, but rather the simple fact that there is undeniable evidence that we share a common ancestry with our closest relatives, the apes, and exceedingly strong evidence that our common ancestry is shared among all life forms on this planet.

Others do find it interesting, of course, and these things have been investigated.

Wow, like umm the Darwin bow is like... a joke!

But if that's too offensive, I've come up with a few other options:

= FALSE

or...

=

Not all or are creationists.

Not that I'm offended (that easily), but others might.
