  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The problem with the scientific method is that it requires a commitment to materialistic philosophy.

No, a scientist just assumes that problems have an answer. They do not assume that it has to be naturalistic. The problem for people of a creationistic bent is that the evidence does not support creationism.

This is something a true Christian will never agree to.

No true Scotsman fallacy.

In my view, an honest and open minded Christian scientist should never accept the wrong notion that there are no scientific errors in the Bible.

Well that's good. Sadly places like Answers in Genesis, ICR, and other creationist institutes don't share your belief.

Embedded Age is maturity without history.

All of the rocks of the Earth have a history written in them. So I guess that since our Earth's rocks have a history there is no "embbed age" for the Earth. It actually is 4.56 billion years old.

In your opinion then, does this mean the majority of Christians who agree with evolutionary theory, are not real Christians?
Excellent question. This forces me to modify what I said as follows: “This is something a true Christian should never agree to.”

Okay, I see my error there. I had picked up on the Geoscience Research Institute at the Loma Linda University reference, which led me to believe his geology was acquired there, a Seventh-Day Adventist school. The red flag there being Young Earth ideology. Aside from that, again, the Flat Gaps article has no merit and numerous errors of assumed erosion rates.

Science says that the universe started out very hot and very dense. We have the evidence for that. It isn't a mystery.
My reference to mystery was directed at the Big Bang theory--mystery because the explosion is described by scientists as a Singularity. A singularity cannot be explained by the laws of physics.

Can you expand on why the big bang theory can not work with physics?

Nic, I've read through the article a couple of times and honestly, his argument makes no sense at all.

Keep reading! Here are some of the references to his work.

Roth has published many articles in both scientific and popular journals and lectured worldwide. .... (Book now in 17 languages.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariel_A._Roth

Ariel Roth's excellent book is highly recommended for creationists, ... In addition, he has published a hundred and fifty articles in both scientific and popular http://www.amazon.com/Origins-Linking-Science-Scripture-Ariel/dp/0828013284

He has authored over 140 articles on origins … https://answersingenesis.org/creation-scientists/ariel-a-roth-biology/

Thank you. I am impressed. Do you believe that your training and experience far surpasses that of Dr. Ariel Roth?

No, a scientist just assumes that problems have an answer.
I agree with said assumption. What I do not agree with is with the assumption that we can find all the answers dealing with origins.

That is true. And finding out where the laws of physics don't work is half of the problem in finding new and more accurate ones. One of the earliest applications of Einstein's theory of relativity was an area where Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation did not work. The precession of Mercury had been giving scientists fits for over fifty years. Mercury's precession was the first problem this new theory solved. And of course we are most familiar with it in regards to the atomic bomb. And now its most common usage may be in working with satellites so that your GPS can tell you where you are. Who knows what new products and energy sources we will get when the problems of the singularity are solved. Right now our math does work up to just a fraction of a second after the Big Bang.

Meanwhile creationists have no scientific explanation at all and many of their beliefs are shown to be wrong by modern science.
