EASTER EGG: PROMISE

Easter is approaching! Get ready, Get ready, Get ready! A beautiful time, for the Lord’s resurrection is celebrated. So many of us have traditions celebrated at this season. What does it really mean for you to celebrate Easter?

I remember as a child, one time, the family would ALL get together, like in one accord (not talking about the Honda Accord, although there were those that tried to pile many people in one vehicle), but gathered together with love and fellowship joyfully celebrating how much the Lord loved us…How He is Risen!

In the dining room was a variety of foods place on the table to eat. My brother, sisters and cousins would be so excited, because mother had hidden Easter eggs in the backyard for us to find.

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking
Matthew 7:7-8 – “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find, knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

We ran outdoors as fast as our little legs could run, searching everywhere for the Easter egg. There was one egg that was covered with Reynold’s Wrap, and it was silver. The person who found the silver egg would get a prize. I desperately desired the silver egg.

As we know, silver is symbolic of redemption. Oh, how the Lord (was) when crucified on the cross, and then was risen, became our Redeemer.

As written in Titus 2:13-14: “…Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”

He died for our sins, and that we may be made NEW through Him. Revelation 21:5-7 – “Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful. 6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be His God and he shall be My son.”

I was determined to find that Easter egg. There was a dirt pile in the backyard. I began to dig, dig, and dig, thinking, “The egg has to be here!” And it was. After several minutes, all dirty but beaming from ear to ear, the silver egg was found! I ran into the house and showed mother who laughed and told me how she enjoyed watching us children searching for the eggs. And that I didn’t have to dig so hard to find the silver one, because it wasn’t hidden that deep!

I found the egg that was the prized treasure! And Mother gave me a $5.00 bill. But the most important thing that I have received is the Lord Himself! He is a treasure I can carry in my heart! And these days when I dig is in the Word of God!
