One day Facebook may come back to bite us all.

One day? Try all the time.

There are people constantly getting into trouble with what they post on Facebook. From bullying to criminals updating their status with a gloat of some crime they committed.

I have a facebook account, but I am very careful about what I put on there. I very rarely post personal opinions. I have always lived by the rule that if there is something that you would not brought up in court during a lawsuit or other kind of trial then don't put it writing, period.

I have it, but it's locked down to people who aren't friended, and I don't friend people whom I don't know.

I do much more lurking than posting but occasionally will post things up.

I like being able to keep up to date with things like friends, music and products as well as getting coupons for things all in one place.

Bottom line: be careful about what you post, be it words or pictures, and you'll be fine.

Facebook's security issues suck, because basically you're giving any good hacker and the government info on everything about you, including what you comment/post/share.

In general and in functionality though, facebook certainly does not suck. If it sucked there, no one would use it. Almost a billion people are on facebook now, it is definitely an amazing tool. Anyone who doesn't want to be found would obviously not get a facebook though. If you want to connect with people you miss or can't be around physically but don't have their email/phone, facebook is perfect. I actually found an old friend that moved back to Greece with her family in 1st grade because of facebook, so it has its good points.

Basically, don't ever post pictures of you partying on fb, and it would also be a good idea to not put a location (or just set it to something like New Zealand or your favorite vacation spot). This will prevent you from having issues getting a job (employers check facebook) and having people stalk you (they know your location). Also, don't put ANY status as public if it includes location info (such as "Going to the wedding" or w/e) because people are stalking those now and can rob your house when you're away. It's been happening.

I wouldn't think it being addictive was a sin, but it depends on what you're using it for. If it's addictive because you're commenting to help people or posting uplifting status updates, then probably not. If it's because you post constantly detailing every moment of your life, then maybe, but that would still depend on the individual's relationship with God. Basically, facebook is a tool- using it for good is good, and using it for bad is bad.

I think some people find themselves checking it every spare moment in the day. Me personally have been known to check it first thing in the morning before leaving my bed which I didn't enjoy, it just became a habit. But since I found Christ I try to use the first moments after waking for prayer and reflection.

actually as much as it is the wave of the future, it SUCKS majorly. I don't like it for the most part. the one reason I sorta like it is that you can get updates from websites on your newsfeed without having to go the website itself and look for updates.

but really, I see so much superficial, shallow updates that get a lot of likes and I'm someone who likes to put up thoughtful stuff but I don't get the same attention. I don't think people like to use their brains on FB unless they're participating in some cool "group" with interesting discussions.

I like to use my brains on fb. I only post relevant, thoughtful, or sometimes funny statuses. I also like to like thoughtful statuses. If you want, you can have mine. Just go to facebook.com/ and add SapphireRyu after the slash.

Facebook is a mixed bag. Like many things, it's as good as what you put into it. As others have said, it's advisable to keep your personal info to a minimum and don't post questionable pix.

I wanted nothing to do with it at first. I got an invite, signed up...and forgot about it for like a year. Then I picked it back up a couple years ago and searched for a few people I'd lost track of. I found them and started finding tons of other people from the various places I've lived and worked. Ironically, some that I only casually knew I've gotten to know even better and am now very good friends with. That's a very valuable thing to me. You can't put a pricetag on good friends.

The flip side of the friend thing is that fights do happen on Facebook. So do be aware of that. Lots of people that are on Facebook have never done much online and are not aware that how they come across online is much different than how they do in person. Others are jerks in real life and jerks on Facebook too!!

Annoyances aside, and there are a few, Facebook has been an invaluable tool for me to keep my friends/family all in one basket.

I don't go in for modern social networking (yes email, forums, IRC, MSN etc is old social media) and unhappy with the latest twist with Facebook organ donators. I will say it's a great way to find a potential organ donator but, fear that sooner or later someone will put themselves forward for a cost and it will start to get out of hand.

It's like the 80's when home computers hit the market and forecasts about this wonderful lifestyle ahead of us in 20 years when we will have heaps of leisure time to do what we want - the perception and reality are never the same.
