Does Christ's cleansing of the Temple contradict what he would later say in Matthew 26:52?

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.

-Matthew 21:12

“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. -Matthew 26:52

In Deuteronomy 14:24-26, if someone was living too far away, then they could exchange their tithe for money to be used to purchasing thing to celebrate God's Feasts when they got to Jerusalem. All of these money was supposed to be used in celebration, so one of the things that they did to keep their tithe separate from their regular money was to exchange it for temple currency. So if someone were using unfair exchange rates, then they were stealing from God's tithe and were therefore literally stealing from God, hence Christ's criticize of them being a den of thieves.

In regard to Matthew 26:47-52, it says that there was a great crowd with swords and clubs, so if Jesus hadn't intervened to defuse the situation and the disciples had chosen to fight to the death, then that is what most likely would have happened, which would accomplished nothing especially when compared with everything that would have been left undone that he had prepared and commissioned them to do. There are times when it is appropriate to fight and times when the best decision is to surrender peacefully, and his plan was to surrender.

If He had used a weapon on people, it would have been.

The whip to drive out the animals -- As someone that herded animals like me would know, if you wave a rope in the air, it will make animals move. You don't hit them with the rope, but simply wave it in the air and they will move. Anyone that's driven animals with knowledgeable hands knows that's how we typically move a group of them. It's the common sense of a country person that grew up with animals.

@Sarsath > Maybe it can be like how Jesus being the Lion would seem to contradict Him being our Lamb. There is something to get from each.

Likewise > be wise that he who draws the sword will perish by the sword. And know that our Father's house is the house of prayer.

Possibly, this now means we who are God's people are His temple of prayer.

So, instead of depending on what the world depends on > like swords > be prayerful to depend on God, all the time.

In Matthew 21:12 Jesus acted out of righteous anger whereas Matthew 26:52 is an entirely different situation where his disciple acted out of revenge.
