  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you agree that christians should keep the 10 Commandments? (4)

Jesus said love love and love.. And He even empowered us to do so by His spirit. I am not an Isrealite. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus.

What if we have this all wrong... it is by submission to Christ and a daily death to self that He reigns within us. This allows Him to change us from the inside to that our characters are remade into the image of His likeness. Keeping the law becomes a product of that intimate relationship, and evidence of His power, not mine. Therefore keeping the law is entirely plausible. Also, it should be important to note that the two commandments Christ gave were not necessarily different to the decalogue, but different to the mindset of the decalogue the Jews had nurtured. The 10 commandments is about love. It is a law of relationships. A relationship between God and man, and a relationship between man and his fellow man. Therefore love God with all your heart, and your neighbour as yourself IS the 10 commandments. It is its essence.

Love for God is not committing fornication.

If we love God we obey His commandments. If we love God we obey His will. His will and commandment is abstaining from fornication.
So in order to love my husband I must obey his commands? Love is an action word. It is spawned not from self love for God but from the Love of God shed abroad from the Holy Spirit. If I love my husband I love Him with full commitment to Him and doing things to bring him joy and peace. If I love God I want to give my all to Him. Loving as Christ loved me and layed His life down for me. When you love someone you do not need a set of rules to abide by. Checking them off each day. In fact you look for ways to express love by denying yourself and putting them first. One must actually understand what love is through the scripture. Scripture does not tell us that love obeys the 10.

Love counts in the end..

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

No but if we love God we will obey His commandments. God is not a man. How can we teach to the two greatest commandments but ignore the rest? Love for neighbor and God does not steal, commit adultery, lie, covet neighbors wife or possessions, murder or dishonor mother and father. If we do any of those things we are outside of Gods will and need grace to sustain us. Love does no ill will to its neighbor according to Paul so love does not break the at least 9 of the 10 Cs.

Deuteronomy 5 unequivocally removes the possibility of "two laws" ( a 10 commandment & ceremonial )....
...That rubric is simply IRRECONCILABLE with Scripture AND either of the Jewish or Christian Traditions.

If one reads that Chapter it's realized that what is going on there is a detailed view.....
...Of what happened on the mountain when God gave Moses the ten commandments.
...Here is a short summary which can be confirmed by simply reading it.

A) Everyone is near the Mountain while Moses is "on it".

B) God starts to issue the "commanments" and by the time He makes it to TEN.

C) The people are terrified and freak out - begging Moses to just have God tell him the Commandments......
....So then Moses can tell the People.

D) God tells Moses He appreciates that attitude and wished the people would always have it.

E) God instructs Moses to tell the people to get back into their tents and orders Moses to stay with God....
...So God can COMPLETE telling Moses the commandments.

Deut 5,30
And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

25Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

26For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

27Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

28And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

29O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee ALL the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

32Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
33Ye shall walk in ALL the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess

That's about as direct and black and white as anything could ever be...
...God orders Moses to stay with Him so that He can give Moses "ALL" the commandments.
...God then tells Moses that Israel is to walk in "ALL" the ways God "COMMANDED THEM".

Therefore the law is ONE unit and within it are commandments which can be classified as CEREMONIAL and Moral....
...Some Commandments, such as the Sabbath have both aspects to them.
...So much for the shibboleth of two laws in the Books of Moses.

Love does count but we cant forget about love for God which obeys Gods commandment. The last 6Cs are sound doctrine taught by the apostles. Surely we cant love God and neighbor by not obeying these commandments.

We are not judged yet. Our sins are not blotted out yet. One day God will judge every man according to their works.
Only those who go to the great white throne will be judged by works. We are not part of those if indeed we have Christ in us the hope of Glory. Our works will be judged. But we are judged already. We are judged redeemed of the Lord. Washed in His blood. Saved by Grace Spirit filled and glory bound. Not by anything we have done but by Gods very Grace that saves a man and not of works lest any man should boast. This is why Christ came.. To save His people from their sins. He went to prepare a place for His body of believers.

Yes it is a human attempt to love God. Because Joseph was an Isrealite.
