No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you mean beliefs, then here's my point of view. I was Baptist, wanna become an official Catholic, so I would know. Anyway, okay. Baptists where I live believe God and Jesus were two different beings. Catholics believe in the Trinity as Untiy. If that makes since. Catholics believe in praying to saints in heaven to pray to God for them. Baptists do not believe in this. There are many other things, but I g2g soon.

OBOB most likely has a few members who converted from the Baptist denomination. So, they have "lived the differences".

One major difference is regarding the Eucharist.

Yeah, I converted from Baptist. Some other things... Hmm they are soo totally different. Umm, Catholic churches are quiter and not as laid back. Catholic churches drink real wine during the Lord's Supper thing, I think the Catholic term is Communion, right? Anyway, Baptists drink grape juice. Lol. And the Baptists do not recognize the Pope as Christian's spiritual yet physical head on Earth, unlike Catholics, if that makes sense.

Hi Kenny!

My dad was raised in Baton Rouge, LA. He's lived in the NW for over 40 years but still says Wadnesdee instead of Wednesday or ampty for empty. And I know it's New Awlens, Loosianna. Interestingly, my greatgrandfather on my dad's side came over from Germany about 150 years ago as a German Evangelical pastor to southern LA and migrated up the Mississippi River. He eventually settled in Illlinois and founded a church there that still bears our family name on the cornerstone.

Lando, I think the most fundamental difference is ecclesiological. (Ecclesia=Church in Gk) We define the Church differently. In the 16th century, the 'Reformers' broke away from the One Church established by Christ and eventually created their own definitions of what the word 'Church' means. These definitions vary from denomination to denomination; so I can't even begin to get into that.

But, fundamentally, the Protestant Churches and their progeny decided to base their Churches on the Sacred Scriptures. They could do nothing else since the SS were all they had left after they abandoned the Church founded by Jesus. Evidently, they didn't understand how important Church unity was to Jesus. About that: read John 17.

Obviously, after abandoning the unity of the Church, they began to differ among themselves and many denominations were born. Since they did not have the Magisterium (Teaching Authority) of the one Church founded by Jesus, which is guided by the Holy Spirit as Jesus promised, they splintered and fractured into what you can observe today. It's a shame.

Gradually, each splinter Church develops its own Traditions about how to interpret SS and some of them have become bigger than others. The Baptists were the largest Protestant denomination in the US. I don't know if they still are. Unfortunately, I am not qualified to speak for them. Perhaps you can tell us your beliefs.

well i was told to come in here if i had questions on catholic doctrine. but i need to tell ya'll one thing about baptist doctrine. we, and i say we because i attend a baptist church for the sole purpose that they preach what i find to be true, believe that Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are one in the same and that they're not seperate. For example Jesus is one person and God is another, but we do not hold this to be true. we hold what the bible preaches, which would be the trinity. and also the issue of "once saved always saved" we believe that John 10:28-29 covers that and that we cannot lose our salvation. i'm asking about the differences of doctrine not tradition. wine or grape juice doesn't matter to me. all i want to know is how and why the catholic doctrine is different from that of the baptist doctrine?

Stated simply: Baptist doctrine is different because they left the Church established by Jesus. They have a strange assumption: that every person should interpret the SS himself! They ignore the authority Jesus gave to the Church. Itching ears might be the simplest answer to your question.

Lando, do you know much about the history of the Church? Please tell us what your ideas on the facts of history are. I am curious about that. Do your Pastors encourage you to study these things?
