Appearance: Desiree has been told by many men that she is the most beautiful woman they've ever seen. She's tall and slender, her muscles perfectly toned and her pale skin as soft as a rose petal. Her turquoise eyes are large and round, turning up slightly at the edges so she looks as though she holds a secret and set beneath long eyelashes and a high brow. Her long, dark auburn hair reaches to the middle of her back. And while she used to let it hang freely around her face and shoulders, has recently taken to at least pulling some of it away from her face and fastening it with a clasp at the back of her head while letting the rest cascade down her back. She is used to wearing fine dresses and jewelry, but now her attire closely resembles that of men due to her recent adoption of the arts of swordplay and archery. Her only piece of jewelry is a plain gold band on her right ring finger.
Personality: Desiree is, quite simply, a mystery. She's dark, beautiful, and delicate on the outside. But on the inside, she's as hard as a knight's armor. She doesn't trust easily and doesn't understand people who do. Her temper is as fiery as her hair when she feels she's been wronged and can't stand it when people use her. She's smart, a fast learner, and likes to make sure people know it as she believes people only see her for her beauty and not for her intelligence. She can also be very manipulative and knows how to get what she wants.
Background: When Desiree was 16 her family sold her into Lord Arnau's service as payment of a debt. Arnau, who is lord over Rhytium's capitol city, Floresco, took note of her beauty and decided she would be able to turn him quite a profit as a courtesan. And so, for four years, Desiree served as one of the highest-priced courtesan's in Lord Arnau's royal court. Finally, after nearly six months of planning, she escaped from her bondage and fled to a small temple near Collis where she met Persais. She claimed sanctuary within the temple's walls. But it didn't last for long. It was a well-known fact that Lord Arnau hated the temples, believing they spouted nothing but treacherous ideas. So, when he discovered his slave was hiding in a temple, he had all the temples in the land destroyed. The priests and priestesses fled, Desiree along with them, travelling with Persais as the two had become close during Desiree's time in the temple. When Persais finally took refuge in an inn with some of her colleagues, Desiree sought out the best swordfighter and archer in the surrounding cities. Using what little money she was able to get from pawning her jewelry to merchants, she paid the fighters to teach her their skills, vowing never again to be taken advantage of. She did, however, keep the plain gold band that she had been given as a sign of her slavery when she first entered Lord Arnau's service as a reminder to her of her past. Now she acts as a guardian for Persais and thinks of her as a sister.
