  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

does everyone on here have a degree? if so, what kind? what kind of degree do you think is MOST RELEVANT to leading a worship ministry? i'm planning on going back to school in the fall to finish my degree, but I was just interested in seeing what kind of degrees, schooling everyone had and if you have found the degrees you have helpful, relevant or if you wish you had a different degree now?

Degrees can be fine. To be a talented and skilled musician or singer is also very excellent, but to offer yourself as a living sacrifice to the Lord in worship ministry is first and foremost a calling and not about education. That's my opinion at least.

i agree - but i'm asking because i've been asked several times why i'm getting a degree in the field i plan on.
i'm going back to school to get my bachelor's degree in Christian Religion and then go on to get my Masters in Worship Studies. I've been asked several times recently why I'm not going to school for my music degree. I was posting on here to find out what type of degrees people have and if they feel that degree has been helpful.

I'm majoring in Worship Leadership B.S. right now. My school also has a Church Music program which focuses more on the musical aspect rather than the ministry aspect. The Worship Leadership program is more focused in ministry classes rather than music classes. I also know some people who are Worship Leadership majors and then minor in Music.

I guess it depends what you are shooting for. I know people who love the music focused Church Music program and then those who can't stand it. It goes the other way for the Worship Leadership program. Whatever you do though.. make sure you are spending good and adequate time practicing your musical skills. Arts in the church today often suck. Don't abandon bettering your craft.

I have a degree in English. (music minor, some church music and [Christian]religion courses)

I agree with NorwayUnn, who said that this is a CALL.

that said, if I were you, I would do whatever the Lord leads, which it sounds like you are doing. When people ask, tell them it's what He's leading you to do.

I'll go with the group... it is a call.

However I do have college education in music. Jazz guitar. It helped me a lot.. specially get to know everyone musically and learn their weaknesses and strenghts and know what music is best suited to their ability.
Although music from Hillsong sound very simple to do, it's not always the case.. and I know that our band cannot play 1 song without rehearsing for 1 full month.

Studies will help you increase your discipline, and know how to manage different music styles and rythms. But true worship comes from the heart and what you do during the week will reflect on your worship on Sundays.

i have been on our worship team for 11 years and have been the leader for 5 years. It is definitely a distinct calling on my life. I have really felt God calling me to study His word in a deeper way. I'm so excited! I am officially enrolled in school and will be registering in early August.

i have a B.A. in Theatre Arts.

it gives some type of credibility among certain types of people who are into letters and such. but God is the one who gives His approval and anoints what we do if it is from Him. if you can get education, learn all you can about what you do, we can never know too much about anything that we are called to do for the Lord.

I have a B.A. in theology and religion. I took alot of music classes in college. God gifted me in music but I do not like to theorize about music, or think about it too technichally. In college I was a music major for a while but after a while I got burnt out with all the competion between students the pressure from the faculty and I just wanted to devote my music to God. I did not know much about the bible but after the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to Scripture I couldn't get enough, so I majored in theology.

My degree in theology has helped me alot more than if I would have gotten a degree in music. If you already know the basics of music I would suggest diving into a ministry degree of some sort.
