Well I am glad to hear you have 18 months of sobriety, that is quite the accomplishment. Good luck continuing with all that progress. And also, good luck on your journey with God.

I think the fact that those of us around addicts cannot really do anything to help them get better is one of the hardest aspects of addictions for non addicts to deal with. Sure, there are lies and sometimes violence. There are the disappointments. But I think those things make you wish all the more you could help whoever it is in your life get better. So they can "be" better.

The receive the best advice, it's vitally important to talk to people who managed to get rid of their alcohol addiction and learn from what they did to get rid of their addiction. You are a very brave person and behaving exellent under the circumstances. It is unfortunatly so that woman seem to cling on to the abusive types of guys like she did (while there are a lot of great guys out there who don't even get a chance which i tend to think is unfair) , however you have to understand and rest in the knowledge that you are NOT an expert in treatment of addictions, and therefore you should NOT blame yourself for being accountable towards being a part of the treatment that your mother is enduring. You do everything you can, and let God,and the experts do the rest. You did the best thing ,namely encouraging your mom to goto rehab. And honestly what could you do extra?, no one could do extra unless your an expensive trained expert in addiction relieve effort.
