  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

David Hicks - what do you think should be done with him?

OK, so David Hicks has been sentenced and will be a free man by the end of the year. What are your thoughtd about this? Too lenient ? Too harsh ? Just right?

Just interested to know what you all think

Blessings to you all,

Steve
Well I think it's cruel, political play.
Again we see it happened, first the 'Children overboard', and now Hicks - a political plaything.
If someone can proof that he WAS a Terrorist then he should be at least 10 years in Jail. But as the Mystery continues and he is not allowed to talk about the Court procedure, it looks like the Yankies can't proof anything, and this is proberly why they waited 5 years for a trail.
But as Downer said on TV that he is a dangerious terrorist??? And then they let him free?
Government playing with human life again.

What i think is interesting is the double standard in the relationship Australia has with America.

If an American citizen was taken prisoner by Aus forces, then imprisioned without trial for 5 years, then a new law is invented so the person is actually guilty of something and can go to trial. The US wouldnt put up with that. if Australia tried something like that it would end up in a US strike against the prison to break their citizen out!

Howard should have demanded that Hicks be brought back to Australia to face our own legal system.

He's a POW and should be treated like one. which does not mean instantly setting him free is a good idea................

He WAS treated like a POW. He was held behind bards until being charged or released. At least the American's kept Hick's alive. His terrorist mates didn't give the thousands of innocent men, women and CHILDREN that much...
John Howard did the right thing and let the unprecidented process take place.

Right............so he's a POW..............but John Howard let the unprecidented process take place?

Taking a POW is an unprecidented process?

The Taliban was funded, armed and supported by America untill after 9/11........they're just as guilty as Hicks are. They've provided 'material support' for terrorists............where's the justice there?
