Dancing Baptists?

I think the justification of dancing would depend upon the type, but as a whole, I believe dancing by todays standards is entirely inappropriate. Most of it is thoroughly sensual in it's nature, though I know it is not always this way. Being open to it in part makes crossing the line all that much easier to do though. And compromise is never healthy

~ Sensual as in sexual would be bad. Sensual really is an idea that has a lot of bad press. Sensual is what simulates or relaxes our senses and makes them feel good. So if you have a headache and dont believe that GOD will heal it, but take medicine for it so you dont feel the pain, that is sensual. If you are cold because the weather is below 60 degrees, so you turn on the heat or put on a sweater to feel warm, you are being sensual. If you dont like the taste of some thing, you put salt and pepper and lime on it so it tastes better, that is sensual. If you tell the kids to be quiet when they are screaming and yelling while you are on the phone, that is being sensual. If you turn out the lights at night so you can sleep (because you can only sleep in the dark), you are being sensual.
~ Each of those instances involves the stimulation of the physical senses for personal pleasure.
~ While we should want each individual we come across to dress in a modest manner, we should not rely on other people fitting into our proscribed standards to prevent us from having bad thoughts. Instead we should be renewing our minds continually with the Word of GOD. Believe it or not, after a while the 'sensual' stimulation of scantily clad members of the opposite sex will go away.
~ Interestingly, in several cultures around the world, the sensual/erotic part of a women is considered her neck. So women wear scarves or neck covering, yet let their breast hang free. I remember being is parts of Asia where the women in the rice paddies were topless (old and young alike) while they worked, but they kept their heads covered.
~ Back to the point though, dancing before the LORD is Biblical and wonderful. I hope you all can to the point where you will be allowed to be blessed by the LORD, and at the same time Bless the LORD in that manner.

I kind of have a hard time with the whole "dancing" thing. THere is a time and a place for it. By today's standards I would NOT approve of it. But since we are "...to be in the world but not of it" then it would really just depend upon the style of it. I kind of belive that we need to learn from our Penacostal(sp) brothers and sisters and move a little bit, raise our hands in praise and loosen up some. I know in the Chruch that I attend that most of the congergation is starting to "warmup" to the idea of doing that.

But as for the OP, like I said it would really just depend upon the style. I see no problem with decent non-provocative dancing for weddings and special functions. Doing the old styles of dancing, (i'm talking 20's, 30's and 40's maybe even swing). Line dancing, and even some 2-stepin. but the stuff that they call dancing today.... NO WAY!!!!!
