Thanks for the welcome. My EABL Trail consists of 12 nestboxes of various custom designs. Last year my first nest had 5 eggs by now and over half of houses had two broods. This Spring is complete opposite. Actually snow flurries today and frost isn't competely out of ground ... no Robins yet. So haven't driven any rebar yet to support column for nestboxes. Hopefully, this weekend I'll have all my temporary boxes in place. I do have a few year-round permanent placements.

Aha...another bird lover That is great you are doing the boxes!
I am on a lake surrounded by woods, so the habitat isn't the greatest; though a friend near town actually got a nesting pair (I was envious ).
The test trail the State did (MA) was about 15 min east of me with large open fields on the wildlife management area.
The recycled boxes I placed on my property to house red squirrels, mice, wrens, house finches, and swallows; may as well what I can right?!

Where abouts are you?
We are just losing snow, frost, and lake ice here too; I am at the MA/NH border.
I have seen a few robins, and luckily we haven't had freak snow storms (so far); we can get a hard frost into the first week of June, and snow in May.

Eastern Bluebirds like/prefer at least 3 acres of mowed grass so parks, golf courses, cemetaries, etc are best locations. Being from the Land of +10,000 Lakes it does get competitive between tree swallows and blues for nestbox occupancy. Sparrows and fiesty wrens can be a problem. It gets down to location, location, location to eliminating frustrating disappointments. Weekly monitoring of nestboxes is a must.

I just got into it last year as a nice retirement project for both relaxation and recreation.There's more and more bluebirds than 20 years ago, so for those having more trees and less mowed acreage buying meal worms to attract and feed bluebird families can get expensive. Wrens can be an expected problem when too close to wooded/brushy areas. Parks, golf courses, cemeteries, etc having 3-5 acres of short grass (ground insects/grubs, small worms) are best habitate for Bb nestbox placement.

Our robins [Mr and Mrs] visited our garden for supplies throughout the winter
They nest, in bushes nearby ... we simply 'nod' to each other, as he gathers

Agnes recently lost her husband. She had him cremated and brought his
ashes home.
Picking up the urn that he was in, she poured him out on the patio table.
Then, while tracing her fingers in the ashes, she started talking to him...
"You know that dishwasher you promised me?
I bought it with the insurance money!"
... She paused for a minute tracing her fingers in the ashes then said,
"Remember that car you promised me?
Well, I also bought it with the insurance money!"
Again, she paused for a few minutes and while tracing her fingers in the
ashes she said,
"Remember that diamond ring you promised me?
I bought it too, with the insurance money!"
Finally, still tracing her fingers in the ashes, she said,
"Remember that blown kiss I promised you?" "Well, here it comes."

Hmmm... I remember reading just recently that male dogs seem to be able to get along with each other well enough. Two females--- if they're not related, there'll be trouble. Sisters get along, a mother and daughter get along, but try to mix two females that aren't related---.

So, the fact that Buster is getting along with the new pup is good, and they'll probably stay friends.

Buster is 'male' and ten, going-on eleven years of age

My experience tells me that 'males' need to become 'alpha'
with the weaker, then deferring to the other [stronger]
for, only just as long, as it must

Bonnie, was a spayed 'female' [non-family]
and their relationship was calm and almost 'loving'
although neither was dependant upon the other nor, did they 'compete' to rule
