Thank-you Renee, so it looks like #8 according to AoG tongues are necessary.

No, you are mistaken. As a (former?) baptist who is looking at joining an AoG church, and has been both studying their doctrine, and praying about the tongues issue, the AoG does not say that tongues are required for salvation.

They say that all believers CAN (and perhaps should?) speak in tongues. The baptism of the holy spirit in their theological understanding follows justification/salvation. Reference Acts several times where people were saved but later became spirit filled and began speaking in tongues.

I have never seen anyone who said you have to speak in tongues to be saved.

I agree.
Every so often someone brings up this question... everyone agrees it is not a requriement, and the thread goes away.

Where it comes from I do not know. Some have twisted some UPC teachings to make it look like they are saying it.. but this, I think is just more heresy hunter twisting and obfuscation with a fleshy desire for controversy, division, and strife.

Heresy hunters... you gotta luv'em.

Nope. Speaking in tongues is a gift, not a requirement. My UPC friends disagree with me on this, but I feel like they are ignoring scripture and relying completely on church doctrine.
I believe the argument stems from the belief that one is not filled with the Holy Spirit unless you speak in tongues. Jesus said man should be born of the water and of the Spirit, therefore both water baptism and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit would be required for salvation.

This is accurate. AoG do NOT believe tongues are necessary for salvation.

Do you believe one MUST speak in tongues in order to be saved?

Or is it a gift of the spirit which some receive?

Personally, I believe every Christian CAN speak in tongues from the moment they are saved (Eph. 1.3; 2 Peter 1.3)—we have access to every spiritual gift from the instant we are baptized by the Spirit into the Body of Christ. Whether they do or not depends a lot on what they are taught/mistaught (Acts 19.1-6).

Yes, all believers can speak with tongues the moment they are born again... prophesy too!
That is a false doctrine
Speaking in tongues is evidence of being "endued with power" from the Holy spirit not of receiving Jesus as your redeemer. The two are not the same event although in some believers the events can occur simutaneously

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

The latter. Tongues is not a prerequisite. Even Paul's treatment of the gift of tongues in 1 Corinthians 14 de-emphasize it somewhat in favor of the gift of prophecy.
