I live in a house with small babies (2 and 8 months). I love it, they're such a joy to be around, but being near them and helping take care of them is really making me anxious. (I don't help much at all because they're not my kids, but I hold them and play with them, etc.)
2 examples:
I ear honey, but i am terrified of honey somehow getting on a surface and then the 8 month old putting his mouth on it and eating it. Babies under one year cannot eat honey because they could get botulism. AND, to make matters worse, I'm making baby blankets for friends who will have babies soon, and I'm scared honey might get on the blanket and then in the babies' mouths!
And then today at a small group event, I was getting the 2 year old a glass of water, and I walked past 2 other dads, and I was pretty sure I saw a bit of spit go from one dad's mouth as he was talking and fall into the cup I was using. I was like "ok well I need to not be paranoid, it'll be fine," and I rinsed the cup, but not all the way, and then gave water to the 2 year old. But now I'm freaking out, because what if the guy had herpes?? It sounds silly but UGH I should have just got another cup--they were disposable anyway.
This is just really stressful and they're not even my kids. I am not a parent yet; not sure how that's going to go if I struggle with just the bare minimum with someone else's kids.
