  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My son is turning 5 next month and so will be going to school this fall. My husband and I have been searching for a school that will meet his needs and at the same time uphold our values as Christians. The problem we are facing right now is that the area in which we live many of our local schools are failing their students because of the "No child left behind" law, since many of our students here are children of imigrant families and do not speak english as a first language if at all...many of the english speaking children are being pushed aside so that the teachers may focus on the non english speaking students. So together we have thought of Christian school at our church but that is just way out of our budget so we have thought of homeschooling with both of us acting as teacher. However I know little about homeschooling and would be grateful for any help and advice you all could give regarding choosing a program and also how to homeschool. We currently have 2 children one will be 5 next month and the other will be 4 in August so we need a program where maybe even the younger one can get involved....ok enough of my rambling anyone who can help I'd be grateful!

Check out Home School Legal Defense Association for your state's regulations http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1 You can also find whatever local homeschool organizations are in your area on the HSLDA website, and then you should contact Them for local support and info.

Consider buying/borrowing Mary Pride's book on home education, seen here.... http://www.amazon.com/Mary-Prides-Book-Home-Learning/dp/0890514593 She helps you figure out curriculum choices, etc.

This, along with the links you got in your pm from RTM should get you started.

Homeschooling is great but also can be overwhelming at times. I homeschool 5 kids and you have to just do what works for you family and not always a school setting at home is needed. Check into unschooling and see if that might work for you.

What is Unschooling??? I do kinda like the idea of homschooling because if I find something that my children don't like to do or struggle to do I can immediately adjust my teaching accordingly...to help them to master that topic either by trying a different way of teaching or by simply trying a different area within that topic.
