Badfish: Yeah, actually I did. Unfortunatley, none of my ideas work once war starts. So I'm stuck hoping Bush is right, and this war is quick and easy. On us, on the conscripted Iraqi's, and on the civilians.

And I have real worries he's wrong.

Correction of history here:  you must not remember UN peacekeeping actions in Kosovo, Lebanon, or any of a dozen other places.  Canadian and Scandinavian forces have especially played roles in such conflicts.

The UN *does* do something - but you can't blame it, for not being the rubberstamp for one agenda-driven American president.

The US is the most powerful country in the world, our allies and generally the world looks to us as the superpower to keep 3rd world and dangerous countries from terrorism and other attrocities.

Our country is the most powerful nation on earth and we didn't get there by being pacifists, we got there because of strong and competent leadership and if that meant war, then that is what it called for. That is why it is our job. The world looks up to us.

World peace isn't going to happen if we don't start taking action against these kinds of things.

That's the problem. Most of the world doesn't think he is a danger to the whole world.

And, no matter what you personally think of the veracity of Bush's claim that he is such a danger, Bush has not been persuasive on the point.

No, he isn't.  He doesn't have nuclear weapons, he doesn't have a delivery system.

As for chem and biological weapons, there's no evidence that he is exporting them.  And CIA director George Tenet testified before Congress that Saddam was unlikely to use such weapons, UNLESS he was attacked and felt cornered.

We've done a good job of containing Saddam for 12 years.  Why not continue doing that same job?

Answer:  it conflicts with the Wolfowitz/Perle/Abrams/Rumsfield doctrine, and with American business and petroleum interests in that region of the world.

Sometimes that's what it takes. Unfortunately a lot of nations want what the US has, and with those wants come jealousy, hatred and fear.

Was it fear that provoked 9/11? Or revenge out of hatred?

Of course he has a delivery system, there is more than one way to deliver them than by bomb, and what about peaceful neighboring countries? What if it's a pass it on bio weapon?

The world can't take that chance.

Why waste another 12 years trying to contain this fool, we just need to remove him and restore their country to peace.

He doesn't need a conventional delivery system. Only the narrow minded would think he needs a missile with a 12,000 range. There are dozens of ways to get across our open borders. Hell, he could hire 20 Cessnas and drop chem weapons on metro areas. Far fetched? So was flying jets into sky scrapers until recently.

Not surprising. I often look at those who say "Shut up and support the President!" and say, quietly, to myself, "Sure, once you show me you shut up and supported President Clinton, and Carter, and Kennedy, and others who were opposed to your political beliefs."

Better solution? Let the inspectors do their jobs and enforce their ability to do so. Simple as that.

As you champion Daschle, remember that this is the same guy that was all for Clinton's action in Kosovo, that was, BTW, not done with UN approval. It was a NATO operation, and mostly American at that-- sure didn't see screams of unilateral action and US agression from the lefties on that one now did we? Hippocracy abounds on all sides here, as each party plays more at partisian politics rather than making any attempt to be statesmen. Daschle was setting himself up to be a presidential candidate, nothing more nothing less.

Recently I have seen and heard how Sadaam and his son tortured and basically did much evil against the people of Iraq. The war is just if it is only for that reason. Sure there are other nations and dictators out there doing evil also but Sadaam and son has done enough evil to their own nation to fight a war to help liberate them.

Funny, the 5-10,000 I marched on Washington with to protest the war on Kosovo were mainly what I think you'd call leftists...and if there were that many protesting, how many do you think were opposed in general?

There was a lot of opposition to the war on Kosovo from the Left. Our mainstream media, who loved the war, just didn't want to spotlight it.

Therefore, a liberal has to post this thread to try and save face. Right? Wrong?

Daschle, the ultimate Bush-hating liberal is now "sucking up" and asking for everyone to be behind the military and President, because he realizes that his political agenda is in jeapordy. The anti-war protestors look like and sound like a bunch of idiots, and our military is kicking butt on Saddam.

I'd be bitter if I was wrong too.
