Someone said
We do not accept any form of the Ecumenical or charismatic movement of this day
in an ealier post and i was wondering what it means and if i'm correct why not
"I'd rather be in a church where the devil and the flesh are manifesting than in a church where nothing is happening because people are too afraid to manifest anything. Every time there is a move of God, a few people will get excited, go overboard, and get in the flesh. Other believers will get upset, saying that couldn't be of God. Don't worry about it either. Rejoice because at least something is happening
If someone comes in the meeting, rolls around on the floor, laughs in the Holy Spirit, and does it in the flesh, at least he's not getting drunk or taking dope" (No Laughing Matter, p. 66).
- Rodney Howard-Browne -- noted Charismatic associated with the Pensacola-Toronto Blessing
In contrast:
"Any of it [teaching] that is good is in the Word of God, and any that is not in the Word of God is not good. I am a Bible Christian and if an archangel with a wingspread as broad as a constellation shining like the sun were to come and offer me some new truth, I'd ask him for a reference. If he could not show me where it is found in the Bible, I would bow him out and say, 'I'm awfully sorry, you don't bring any references with you'" (Counterfeit Revival, p. 67)
- A.W. Tozer
"Unity must be ordered according to Gods Word, or else it be better war than peace"
- Reformation Martyr Bishop of Worchester Hugh Latimer
"Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favour of that side will be cast the vote of truth."
- Basil of Caesarea
Those who reject the ecumenical/charismatic movements do so out of a belief that both allow for error/heresy/compromise all for the sake of a "unity" not based on pure Biblical doctrine. It seems as if the truth of the Gospel has been watered down by those seeking alliance with those who either deny or denegrate basic tenets of Christianity that Scripture teaches.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
May we forever stand against heresy and for the truth of God's Word - even if that means being labelled divisive by those who deny Christ by their lives or by their doctrines !
