You beleive in God because God is imbedded in your heart. "I knew you before you were in the womb"
Pray to God for clarity, ask Him to place people in your life that will help you understand and will help you to learn.
Bible study is a great begining.

The Saints Below

Sorry you have had this struggle. Glad you haven't give up, friend.

In addition to the other websites, if you google Radio Bible Class, they have a lot of basic information which would be easy to share with your child. They also have daily devotions - a great way to make your Christianity practical and deeper. Also, there are some good sites here, under the top heading "Devotions". And I love my Thompson NIV Chain Reference Bible - tons of verses listed by subject (different than a concordance, which it also has.)

About church -
A. Impartial
Here you could converse with various denominations in the "Congregation" section.

B. Partial I admit it, but even if you don't agree with my conclusions, the following post I wrote could help you as you seek to find a church:

“How do you find a good church?”

1. I personally avoid a "fundamentalist" congregation. One who judges your spirituality by outward appearances, using some spiritual "measurement sticks" of their own. I have had this experience myself, and have found much more spiritual maturity, comfort, and love in churches that are "conservative evangelical". (Some of them are: Southern Baptist, Evangelical Free Church, and some non-denomimational churches.) They follow God's grace rather than legalism, and they believe all of God's Word. I especially like churches with "small groups" that meet during the week for worship - it's so much easier to communicate and have Christian friends that way. In addition, some people who are uncomfortable in church attend Christian support and recovery groups such as Overcomers Outreach. They really get down to the nitty gritty with God and with each other - and no condemnation allowed. (To God, Christians are HUMAN BEINGS, NOT HUMAN DOINGS.) I have never seen a liberal church that believes the whole Bible is inspired by God and is without error.

2. "Whenever we would more to another town, I would call conservative evangelical churches (such as S. Baptist, Evangelical Free, some non-denominational). I would ask the pastor these questions:
a.
How do you believe a person is saved?
"Christ died for sin, once for all [all people and all sins - past, present, and future], the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God." I Peter 3:18, NIV, and "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
b. Do you believe a person can lose their salvation? (Romans 6:23, Romans 11:29, and John 10:28-29)

No matter what you believe, his replies should make your choice easier.

God bless you, friend. I pray that He will show you just the church He has for you and your family. (Of course, they're all filled with sinners, but guess there's not much we can do about that .)
Aloha in Jesus

Which reminds me of a poem that I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember it too well. Maybe someone can correct me.........
"The saints above are easy to love,
but the saints below -
well, that's another matter!"

Thank you everyone for your info. Iam taking the bible reading and prayer to heart. My daughter and I are still doing the DVDs we love them Iam learning along with her. My questions are being answered I quess you could say that God has answered my prayers through my little girl. I felt like a failure for not knowing, but in learning together it has given us a connection that we may not have had. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, we would still like to find a church, but I don't feel as though I must have one. When God sends us to the right one we will know. God bless you all.

The root of your confusion rests in your inability to fully comprehend God's love. Obviously you have a loving husband, and your foster children are loving, but at the end of the day, your family issues as a child have made it diffcult for you to understand how to receive love from God.

Such being the case, you went to a church were you were not loved, but instead were humiliated and pressured.... so you left. (Since you had no revelation of God's love at that church, you did not develop faith)

Then you went to a church where you were loved. (There you did have a revelation of his love, and you did develop faith. However, your pastor became the sole delivery system for God's love into your life; when he left, you left.)

Then you went to a church that was very commercial. (There, you also lacked a revelation of God's love because the church was less concerned about what it could do for you and was more concerned with what you could do for it.)

Bottom line... you need love from God. Just ask Him to reveal his love to you. There is no shame in asking. When he did it for me, when i asked, i was not in doubt of his existence; but I was going through a tough time, and I needed his grace. When he gave it to me, i was never the same again.
