Last night, Jay Leno announced that in five years, he will retire as host of NBC's "Tonight Show," and that the new host will be Conan O'Brian. What do you guys think of that?

I, for one, think that five years down the line is a long time to plan... On the morning news today, they were saying that the network had to do that in order to "lock in" Conan, who would have been courted by other networks... but still... I don't want to lose Jay!

On the other hand, I kinda like Conan, and I think he might do all right in that spot. His humor is really different than Jay's, though.

I agree. On the other hand, they said the same thing about Johnny Carson.
Even though Carson made few new shows the last few years and Leno didn't take many days off the ratings dropped significantly when Leno took over. I like Conan but I think NBC made a mistake particularly since somebody better may come up during the next 5 years. I also agree with Eutychus that Conan is a better fit later at night and not a good fit for the time slot that the Tonight Show has.

I like Jay Leno better than Conan, but one thing about this is that Jay Leno is getting stale and his jokes get very predictable after listening to him for a while. On the other hand the same could be said about Conan.

May be NBC should invest in cloning Johny Carson.

Or 99% of people that aren't actually comedians for a living.

Hmmm... I'm not sure how long Leno has done it, but it's been awhile. I know he was the (rather permanent) guest host for Carson for a long time before he was officially hired. That's part of what makes this so strange... although Conan is known to NBC audiences, he hasn't been a part of the Tonight Show.

I prefer Conan to Leno...I think he's funnier. What will be interesting to see is will he move to LA, or stay in New York..and will Max go with him, or will Kevin stay? So many questions. also will Frankenstein stay and continue to waste a minute of our time ever so often?
