  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hate to say this, but he's the only high-ranking member of Bush's administration I really trust.

He's a pretty good (ie. persuasive) speaker; he's not a yes-man; he has his convictions & acts on them; he'd rather have peace over war but knows when the time to make difficult decisions has come; he's pretty intelligent; he's relatively untainted by politics.

I think he'd be a pretty good American President.
What do you think?

If I remember correctly, he was asked to run for President a couple of elections ago. Sadly for us all, he reluctantly refused. He and his wife were concerned that their race would make them targets for the nuts of our country.

very sad

I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, if it came down to a runoff between him and Bush, I would choose Powell.

He would most likely get my vote also but I would give strong consideration to the proven fact that Bush will choose people to serve with him that are actually more qualified than He. This is a rare leadership attribute and one to be noticed.

Hi all again!

Well, I liked his speech last night (Israel time). This is a translated (by yours truly) summary of one of the lead editorial from Israel's largest circulation daily newspaper.

Be well!

Excellent point Mike.

I think Powell is near genius.  I know he's not perfect, but the man has it together.  I have been impressed with every interview I've seen him in and he's had some serious on the spot questions that he doesn't evade, he simply gives the best answer he can considering national security and being diplomatic.

He'd have my vote.

And I don't think skin color has nothing to do with anything but when we have a president who isn't caucasian it will be a big step for the country in lying to rest still underlying hints of racism and bigotry.  Heck, if you wanted me to pick a president based on skin color other than caucasian, I'd go with Will Smith.

I really can't tell,

I believe he supported both Clinton and Bush Jr.................

And traditionally, african americans vote Democratic.

My personal biastic choice :

He isn't Catholic is he,I need to find that out?

I guess I would vote for him no matter what party he runs for -as long as the opponent is IS'NT Catholic.

If the opponent IS Catholic then I'll vote for the Catholic!!!

In Christ,

Hector

That is so very true! I hear comments about how stupid Bush is and how much better it would be if his cabinet or other leaders were President instead of him. I think Bush is simply assigning responsibilities very well. He did a good job choosing those people.

Would I vote Powell over Bush? I don't know, off the top of my head. But the two together do make a great team.
