  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Coffee coffee coffee! Yum!

LOL. Obviously my vote was cast for "I drink coffee regularly." I pretty much have a cup every day. But not the bitter stuff. I hate bitter coffee and I don't understand how people can drink it black.

Nope. I have a favorite flavor: Swiss White Chocolate. Oh yeah and those mocha blasts from Baskin Robbins? Heavenly!

And caffeine really doesn't affect me either. I mean I can have a cup of coffee and then go take a nap 20 minutes later. LOL. Actually just having something warm to drink makes me more sleepy. hehe.

Am I the only person who has never understood the appeal of coffee?

no. i know of people that don't like it.

in all reality, it's an aquired taste really.

for me, i first had coffee with my dad while fishing. he forgot to put the cream and sugar in it. so at like 12ish, drinking black coffee was comparable to the first time i had jack daniels...just not drunk or coughing a lot, just hyper. but it's an aquired taste.

then after that, it's all over.

i prefer harsh coffee, which usually means dark coffee/strong coffee. but i take mine with cream and sugar, but black coffee is good tho.

but don't feel like a stranger. there are plenty of people who don't like coffee.

I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I have my moments. I used to drink it all the time at work, but I knew the caffine wasn't good for me so I stopped. After the addiction headaches left I was good to go! But I still have moments when I 'need' it, but they are few and far between now!

I do not know if I like it or not. I have only tasted it one time--when I was around the age of 10 years old. I did not do it to "try" it or to see if I liked it. I only did it for attention. Therefore, I was not a candidate for being converted to or turned against anything.

I have not had any reason to "try" it since then.

I do hate products like coffee-flavored ice cream.

Anyway, I am simply saying that I do not understand the appeal of coffee. Is it for refreshment? Is it for the taste? Is it a social thing like alcohol? Etc. Etc.

I'm with you, I've tasted coffee and I think it sucks.

Only problem is, I can't drink Soda in the morning. So actually I wake up every day caffeene free. I don't typically have a soda til Lunch, then one for dinner. And maybe one for a snack.

Other then that I just drink water.

God I've got to drink more milk. Thats really weird cause my family used to drink a galleon of milk a day and now its like we don't drink it at all.

for me, i drink coffee the same reason i drink alcohol...the taste. i love the taste of coffee.

the refreshment aspect is there too. at least for me. i work 7am to 7pm and prefer to wakeup at 4am when i work. so i can have breakfast, 4 cups (according to the coffee pot) of coffee and just relax before work and not rush. so it "refreshes" me to say the least. it wakes me up on a good level, not like a hypertense kind of level. i've had enough of coffee in my life to where it doesn't wake me up as fast as it used to. in college i probably drank 5-6 cups a day.

there are days tho that if i don't have my cups of coffee, i feel myself very annoyed by things at work or when things in life come in my mind at work because i'm still tired and it takes me till my first break which is at 10am to finally get in the mode to being awake and do my job without being tired while doing it. so i just make sure i have my coffee or if i don't have it at home, i make the extra effort to have a cup at work (which their coffee sucks...so watered down).

i think there could be a social aspect of it too. all the coffee shops around, and Starbucks, the evil empire of coffee (even tho i love their coffee) overtaking the "coffee society" and it's a very social thing. i went to the coffee shop here where i live (not starbucks tho) and there were bunch of older women just sitting in there talking while having coffee.

so i figure there is some social aspect to it.

but for me, it's all about the taste first and foremost.
