Clarification

A recent news article over shootings in MN boldly proclaimed that the shooter was deeply religious, in this case supposed Christian. The question is... should Christians stand up and announce such thinking and behaviour is definitely un-Christian, or should we lamely defend it and further decrease people's opinions of Christianity, perhaps deservedly so. Jesus, not Christianity, said to stay under the radar, do no harm, love even enemies as self. Should we allow His words to be forgotten in favour of political Christianity, a false offshoot?

I think the real Christians should denounce that sort of behavior, calling it un-Christ like.

In the fog of war, which we have surrounding who this guy is, we have lots of opinions about him and less facts. And people wanting to spin it this way or that. I don't think we need to rush to say anything about his motivations. Which we all want to do of course. And we do not need to rush into apologies either. I think we could make some statements about how assassination is not Christian behavior, which I understand that Catholic archbishop Hebda of St. Paul did either Saturday or Sunday. I don't know of anybody who is defending this assassination, either lamely or not.

It just seems that if this is the idea of some that this is what Christianity is, just another form of jihad, then followers of Jesus should stand up and set everyone straight about what Christianity is really meant to be. We've had thousands of years of persecution and wars in the Name of Christianity that need to be set straight. Perhaps those against this abuse should go back to calling themselves followers of Jesus instead, and let Christianity carry on as it always has.

Why would I support wrong or illegal actions because the culprit is christian? If he‘s guilty he should face the consequences for his actions and the behavior should be denounced.

Yes that is not the issue. Should he or others be allowed to say his actions represented the will of God? Gives Christianity a further bad name, but then again duality has always been alive in the religion. honestly I don't think even the religion will ever right itself. Too many humans, not enough God.

This person is obviously mentally ill. So no judgment. It is the Christian who is not mentally ill who acts with hate that we should call out and pray for. IMHO.

He can say what he will but I would never support it or validate the claim. Whether he believed it were so or not. But this ventures into murky waters that relate to hearing from God that would step on a lot of toes. I think a lot of people can’t distinguish from themselves or the devil and wrongly attribute many things to Him that comes from the others.

Judas gave Christianity a bad name. This guy is not speaking for me. He is not speaking for those I pray with. He is not speaking for the Church. He's got his own bloody little thing going on and he speaks for himself and his only tiny little denomination. He can go and pound sand, and maybe if convicted he can do just that.

Exactly, because they had no idea that discernment was based on whether or not the thought served self. If so, it was not from God.

The media will portray him or anyone according to their own bias. Haven’t we all learned that by now? No news outlet is innocent of this. People are going to believe what they want to believe. We see it on this board daily. I would think anyone in their right mind, believer or not knows these actions are not the fruits of Christianity. Are you afraid that suddenly everyone is going to think Christians are following the Faith he at one time claimed to follow by his actions? I don’t think reasonable people will. Those that want to believe it? Well they’ll believe it in some degree or another. But what are you going to do about it? We can’t control those things.
