  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christians owning pets

I am not sure of the exact number but lets say in America we donate over $80 million dollars a year to charities for animals.

So, can a Christian justify owning a pet?

Can anyone imagine Paul and Silas in chains in prison
asking a messenger to go find out
if the dog-sitter is doing okay ?

---------------------------------------
$80,000,000.00 per year ? Is that ALL !?

Americans spend more than that on the super bowls.
(not "supper" (sadly) - "super" )

In one hour, the pharmakeia makes that much. Go figure where peoples values are.(and evil corporations) .....

--------------------------------------
Americans THROW AWAY ENOUGH FOOD EVERY DAY,

to feed the rest of the world.

But that's okay - it's mostly genetically altered, processed , toxic or disease causing food,
that we are giving willy nilly without a care
to our own children!
(and throwing out what's left-over)
--------------------------------------------

So, What to do ?

Seriously ? All we can do.... .... ....

Seek YHWH'S (GOD'S) WAY of dealing with our own lives,
and living as HE SAYS - DO HIS WORD -

DO what HE says to do.

Everywhere
the people did this,

HE BLESSES with abundant life ! (and along with MUCH PERSECUTION)

They wondered all over the place, living a nomadic life. They did not have a home. Most did not have wives. They were poor and could barely feed themselves and most were dependent on the charity of fellow believers. They did not need to learn the lessons that animals teach, it was not what they were called to do. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been asking how the dog-sitter was, they would have been asking how the dog was!
Before that, while the sacrificial system was in place, the sacrificial lamb was to be taken home -into the home itself and raised by hand. You have no idea how quickly people bond with a little lamb, esp. if there were children in the home. Then they had to take it to the priest, or to kill it themselves. It was not easy, and not meant to be easy. It truly became a sacrifice.

No. we are not. We do not require a Rabbi to supervise food production, we do not have to buy food labeled as kosher. We do not require the separation of dairy and meat nr separate refrigerators for them nor do we require no dairy present on the same table as meat. We eat the same kind meat (animals), for those that do eat meat. They are not required to be killed in the kosher manner only. Kosher forbids an animal being stunned before it's throat is cut which some consider as cruel as the animal is allowed to bleed to death and feels the pain while doing so. The food does not need to be blessed by a Rabbi.
No---we are not kosher.

So it all boils down to the principle that if we have the power to do good and don't do it is a sin on our part.

James 4:17King James Version (KJV)
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

John 9:41
"If you were blind," Jesus replied, "you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains."

2 Peter 2:21
It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and turned away from the holy commandment passed on to them.

I must admit that I see our pets as gifts from God to us...I'm in my forties with no children and my little Pixie is such a God send. She is so lovely and when she's near, I feel such love. Probably a selfish answer but I do think when we met she was mean't for me and I for her. :0)

Not a selfish answer at all. We are given a capacity to love and animals given to love unconditionally.

My cat ^Hamlet^ was my soul cat, and I miss him terribly to this day.

Keep loving Pixie.
