Christian Version of Lady Gaga?

A couple nights ago, I was surfing through Stuff Christians Like - a site, that along with this one, should be in every serious Christian's bookmarks - and came across a great chestnut.

What would a Christian version of Lady Gaga be like - would the songs be the same, with a few Biblical references thrown in? Would she dress like a hippie instead of the burlesque act?

What else do you wish there were a Christian version of - and would it be as good as the real thing, better than, or worse?

The real Lady is annoying enough. I don't think we need any imitators floating around.

I have nothing against Christian music but I do wish that there were more innovators within the industry. Too often I hear people say "These guys sound like U2" or "They're a Christian version of Counting Crows". I already like U2 and Counting Crows, so why would I pay to hear a pale imitation of the real thing?

What Christian music needs are artists who think outside the box. Granted, they are out there. Five Iron Frenzy was a perfect example of a band that did their own thing and really brought a fresh style to a scene saturated with clones and knock-off acts. I'm not saying that there aren't any original Christian artists, because there certainly are, but there aren't enough and the few that exist typically get no exposure or radio play.

Christian music needs its own Beck or Radiohead or Flaming Lips, someone really exploring sonic soundscapes and mixing up genres. I don't want clones of those artists but I do want more Christians with their adventurous spirit. Sorry if that rambled way longer than it was supposed to.

I like Lady Gaga. I don't think there needs to be a "Christian version" of her or anybody.

honestly one of the things that kept me away from Christian music for so long was watching how desperate Christian groups were to imitate secular groups, and how Christians tried to get their nonChristian friends into the Christian scene by playing up how similar it could sound to secular music. there's something very sad about that. so i wouldn't say there needs to be a Christian version of her.

now if Lady Gaga came to Christ herself, that would be awesome. and not for the music aspect either

Considering Lady GaGa is a poor man's Madonna - with admittedly, a good voice - being a Christian version of her would not be something to be proud of.

As for the costume or clothing issue, I don't think she's that offensive (or should be) that offensive to Christians. It's like watching Cher prance around in a hoisery leotard - it's so campy that it becomes pretty unsexy. (Though I love Cher.)

I think this question highlights the problem with pretty much all CCM. It's all just a less talented act trying to copy what mainstream acts are doing. I really don't think a cheesy Lady Gaga rip off is going to offer anyone much.

This basically, CCM would get a much nicer rep if it wasn't constantly trying to be the Christian safe version of whatever is popular that month.

Because lets face trying to be a less offensive version of something we already like, is never going to get you taken seriously a musician, and does leave untold amounts of material to mock such groups with.

You think so? I'm thinking she tries awfully hard to emulate Grace Jones... a bit too hardcore. She isn't really refreshing for that reason, but her music is far more interesting than, say, the bubble-gum snappers one typically sees in the mainstream pop circuit.

Again, I like her. I think her music is tragically-delicious, delectably-ridiculous.

I'm not the biggest fan of club/electronic music. I will say, though, that Lady Gaga has an interesting style. Even if it isn't always to my tastes. I think her background as a song writter brings something to the table you won't see with similar acts. Pretty much all of her songs are interesting if you actually listen to the lyrics, yet maintain their quality if you're just after mindless dance tunes. I don't think she's strikingly original, but she knows what she wants to do and does it well.

Sorta like Jesus gear; is it really necessary? I mean I guess if you really want to advertise that you're a Christian you could wear something, I dunno.

I just don't understand why she objects to wearing pants so much. Sure, we'd all like to run around in our underwear, but you can't actually do it.

Performers can get away with wearing most things on stage. I can't actually imagine her going around in her underwear on the streets whilst doing a bit of shopping, or does she do that? lol

I can't say I've ever seen a picture of her in anything but those "onesies" outfits she wears.
