  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christian Artists that need to call it a day.

I don't think any Christian artists should just call it a day. Just because one singer or band is not my favorite, it doesn't mean someone else doesn't like them. Someone likes them and is buying their albums, otherwise they wouldn't have a recording contract. If an artist only reaches one person, that's enough for me and I consider their career meaningful. All of the bands you guys have listed have gotten their careers according to God's will, so if He wants them to continue making records for the next 20 years, it does not bother me because my opinion toward that band/singer means nothing ultimately. If you don't like a band, don't listen to them. You don't need to say they should call it a day.

N-Sync had a recording contract, and people buying their albums....but that doesn't mean they were good, either.

You missed my whole point. And last time I checked N*Sync was not considered a Christian band, thus making your comment completely irrelevant to what I said in my last post in here.

Old and tired acts who are not producing good music and yet living on the name sake they built, are making harder for newer better acts to make it due to the lack of room on the radio for them. That's why bands should call it a day...

Who's to say that they aren't producing good music anymore? And who's to say that a newer band is better than one of the older ones? That would just be your opinion. If a newer band continually seeks after God's will for their career, then someday they will be more popular. You have to realize that every band that is all over the radio now started out the exact same way that the newer groups are right now. They don't need to just get out of the way "to make room" for the bands you currently like.

I don't think any of them should quit doing what they are doing. I became a Christian in the early 80's so my first experience with CCM was The Imperials, Petra, Amy Grant, etc.,, but now,, I love the new groups also (Kutless, Skillet, SCChapman, Avalon, etc.) You should listen to what you want to and what touches your heart. If you don't like the other stuff,, don't knock it,, just don't listen!

You're right.

It's my firm opinion that those 3 need to hang it up as well, as they have all sucked for many, many years.

Ok, then to fit into the context of a Christian artist/band, I'll go back to Audio Adrenaline. I used to work at a Family Bookstores, and heard their stuff for probably the first 4 years they were around. At no time did they do anything worthy of having a record deal.

And Michael W Smith is only still successful because he jumped on the worship album craze, otherwise, he'd be long since done as well.

Except that Audio A has a lot of fans still. People like them. People buy their albums. When people buy their albums, the record company is happy. If the record company is happy, they get to keep recording. I'm sure some people have been very moved by some of Audio A's songs. They've probably impacted lives. Just because you don't like their stuff, it doesn't mean that no one else does or should like them. I personally am not a fan of their stuff, but I'm not going to say "Give it up! You've had your time in the sun." because they've gotten to where they are today by God's will. If He wants them to stay in the Christian industry, then they will. It doesn't matter whether you or I like them. As their brothers/sisters in Christ, we should support their ministry, not tell them to give up and "make room for someone better".

This is shinpai_ga_nai, by the way. I changed my screen name.
