  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I have been trying to eat really healthy mostly since I found out I am pregnant. the past 2 years I have made some progress thanks to my DH who's a healthy eater! I had terrible eating habits as a child, I was (and still am) such a chocolate addict. my mom says she would eat some chocolate chips every night when she was pregnant with me, not sure if it has any thing to do but I feel like I'm craving chocolate day and night and don't want my child to be a chocolate addict. maybe part of the reason for my bad eating habits was because my mom was a terrible cook! TERRIBLE!!! so I would go looking in the closet for snacks, each chance I had I would eat some thing thats not healthy and this went on for years.

I tried stopping this craving by telling myself I don't really need chocolate, by eating some thing else thats sweet like peanut butter or a pb&j, watermelon, gum and just other stuff that have natural sugars in them, in a way it sort of works but not really...I still feel like chocolate (even right now!). I know chocolate isn't the best thing for pregnant women, I wouldn't be conplaining if I had some once a week but every day....this is just too much chocolate and I can feel it's too much but I'm addicted

I don't want my child to be a chocolate/sweets addict like me and trying to break this habit now cause if some of you remember my thread of not wanting my child to eat candy, what I meant was I won't ban candy I just don't want him/her to be addicted like me.

How can I limit myself and stop eating so much chocolate?

I really wouldn;t worry about it! I craved chocolate during pregnancy and ate 2 mars bars every day! I don't even like mars bars!

What your child develops a taste for is more about what you feed her in the early months and years. DD was given savoury things and despite my cravings when PG she has no choc cravings. They can only eat what you give them to start with so make the most of it!

Yah, I've been eating a Snickers everyday on my way to work because I feel that I HAVE to have one. I do eat healthy the rest of the time though.

If I were you, I'd eat very healthy meals with lots of fruits, veggies, protein, and whole grains and then have a piece or two of chocolate. The baby will be just fine.

I totally agree with everyone. I wouldn't worry about your chocolate habit. I wouldn't eat a bag of chocolate chips for dinner or anything, but as long as you aren't craving dirt or bricks - it's good to indulge in your cravings. I heard that there is a reason we crave those things. I used to crave slushies - and I can only assume it was because I didn't drink enough water. So...ENJOY your chocolate!

Thanks for the replies every one! I asked my MIL about it today (she's a doctor) and she said a little cube of chocolate should be good for pregnant women...I normally eat more than 5 cubes of chocolate. in the past few day I was able to limit myself to 2-3 chocolates a day but I would like to limit myself to 1 chocolate every 2 days atleast. I know I should enjoy my cravings but some times I go too far without realizing, thats why I really need limits. it's 17:45pm and so far I have been able to stay away from chocolate today yay lol...

I think your craving it even more because your trying not too! Try not to obsess about it. I don't know...I think chocolate is great! I eat it when I crave it, which is usually on a monthly basis ...and when I was pregnant, I ate it whenever the urge would arise. You can still eat healthy and have chocolate, too, it's really about balance. If you can't help but feeling guilty about it, try eating dark chocolate...dark chocolate is healthy chocolate.

I don't know...but I seem to recall someone saying something about your body lacking something when you are craving sweets...I still love chocolate though...

Dark chocolate is supposedly healthier, so if you eat that you can rationalize it a bit easier than milk chocolate.

I hear you on the cravings, with my son, I craved peanut butter everything and chocolate as well. Needless to say I gained a ton of weight as I gave in to every craving (I was extremely disciplined with my eating to the point of deprivation and for the first time I just didn't want to be a slave to my weight). I paid a price for it. I'm glad I had that experience but I don't ever want to go through that again....lol

ETA: I see that Surrender2Win mentioned that tidbit about dark chocolate...hehe (Great minds think alike )
