  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I should've done this earlier, but now I'm looking at the lineup of the full service:

Where should I start looking for the unity? Half of the event, both in terms of quantity of speakers and total run-time were figures from the Trump family and administrations. Should I start with JD Vance, who unapologetically spread lies about Haitian immigrants eating pets? Or with Pete Hegseth, who's been pretty open about how women should take more of a back seat in society? RFK Jr, whose main schtick is pushing medical conspiracies? Or just jump straight to the man Don Sr, who's repeatedly threatened the press and called them enemies of the state?

But maybe I'm picking too much on the administration side of things. Maybe I should look for this unifying and uplifting language from the speeches given by the author of "Unhumans," Jack Posobiec and noted purveyor of Stop the Steal lies, Tucker Carlson.

Help me out here guys, where should I start?

Charlie Kirk's Memorial Service: Let's Talk About That.

In rolls a slew of sarcastic, derogatory, disparaging remarks.
Sarcastic, sure. That was me, but I am a pessimistic person. Derogatory, disparaging? Nobody has done that as far as I can see.

The victimhood shopping is getting a bit old. People are allowed to have opinions about the event and how it seemed odd.

Then talk about it. Earlier, you said, "I think that overall, the memorial service did a very good job bringing much needed unity." I've asked a couple times now where this unity was supposedly generated. So far, you've only mentioned the pastor and the music, but there were at least 24 other speakers on that dais, many of whom have long histories of being deliberately divisive.

So, what did I miss by only watching Stephen Miller and, since then, the pastor? Was there a call to unity from one of the TPUSA staffers? Or perhaps from somebody in the Trump camp? If you want to point to something, I'll check it out.

Regarding the number of people who answered the altar call (not that this really matters), I suppose we could've been watching different feeds, but the one I linked to earlier didn't cut to a wide shot at all during that section - they stayed tight on the pastor, and this other feed from the AP cuts so wide that you can't really make out anything. They only had respondents stand up in their seats, which makes them stand out less.

If you watched it and comprehended its message, you ought to be able to give me something a little more specific than that. Aside from the pastor I've already mentioned, who stood out to you?

I will say, you should listen to Trump's speech. Not because it was inspirational, but because it was informative. It gives a rare insight into him and how he thinks in a way his political speeches don't. Not that this wasn't a political speech in it's own right, but... I don't know. It's hard to articulate. I felt it gave insight into the man we haven't seen since he gave those interviews where he was investigating his own mortality after the assassination attempts. None of the recaps I've seen really hit upon the cadence of what he said beyond the soundbites.

I don't know, I'm listening to Obama's audiobook right now so maybe it's a point/counterpoint thing that's making it stick out more for me than it is others.

I believe there was only one person who called the left our enemy. I dont agree with it, and I know Charlie Kirk wouldn't agree with it. Just so you know, when Christians talk about our "enemy," we are not talking about people, we are talking about the demonic principalities and powers that manipulate people.

I mean, that person is our president so that's kind of a big deal.

Yeah, he wasn't talking about principles, he was talking about people.

No, I did not. The post you're replying to is the only post I've made in this thread.

Yeah, he wasn't talking about principles, he was talking about people.
When someone shoots you in the ear and another hides in the bushes with a rifle trying to shoot you, you tend to think of your enemies as enemies

One of those guys is dead, the other is in jail. And contextually, he wasn't talking about them, he was talking about the majority of Americans who didn't vote for him and the majority who are unsatisfied with his job performance.

Frank Turek and Marco Rubio had some good messages.

I think the issue is that you are looking for the "kum-bye-yah! Let's all put the past behind us" unity. The unity that we saw was hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world unified over their love of God, country, and humanity. They were unified in their respect and admiration for the life and memory of Charlie Kirk. And guess what? There were no riots, violence, looting, or burning police cars. Just unity to stand strong in the face of evil and wickedness.

That's certainly one potential take, but that's hard to square with your earlier description of the unity as being "much needed". Was there much disunity among the Kirk fanbase prior to this? I wasn't aware that there was.

I don't doubt that lots of beauty and worship went on at Kirk's event but darkness was there as well. Satan thrives on lies and hate.

It was incredible to see Kirk's wife forgive the murderer. But, it was horrible and satanic to watch Trump lie and preach hate and see so many who claim to be Christians cheer for the vile which spewed out of his mouth.

It is our calling to love and be kind. I pray for the redemption of all of those that embraced Trump's message.
