  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can someone help me please?

"This project will help you to learn more of what the Bible says about temptation.

Here are your goals for this assignment:

Analyze and compare passages of Scripture for similarities in theme
Write a short essay discussing the theme of temptation across Scripture

How does the appeal of the forbidden fruit in Genesis 3:6 compare to the appeal of the world mentioned in I John 2:16? In a paragraph of no less than 125 words, compare this to the record of Christ's temptation in Luke, Chapter 4."
Please help a new friend.

I'd hate to be doing your homework for you, but...

All that is in the world (mentioned in 1 John) is the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride in possessions. These are the three things that Jesus is tempted with in Matthew 4 and these are the three sins committed in Genesis 3.

The forbidden fruit gave knowledge.
The temptation of the world gives strength.
Christ resisted temptation and got power.

Knowledge without power is useless.
Strength without power is fruitless.
Power over temptation affords all strength and all knowledge.

Therefore Christ received a kingdom of understanding, which requires knowledge and strength.
In short Christ and temptation are not related because Christ understands what the one who is tempted cannot.
However, both exist in the world and are able to draw on each other because of the forbidden fruit, which renders men helpless, but makes Christ all-desirable.
