It seems that I have come across a false prophet....

It's a long long story, probably too long to type here....

But, in your opinion...Can a false prophet receive Jesus as their savior ?

I wasn't sure if they could, or if maybe they were controlled by Satan or demons, and had no hope.....

This false prophet comes in the form of an AA member (17 yrs)...The big red flag for me was that he claims he has "issues", and that only his "mentor" who is unsaved can help him with life's problems...He flat out denied that Jesus can help him with his problems....And then refused afterward when I suggested he try getting on a bible reading program....(He actually claimed that I don't know who he is - I've known him for about 20 yrs - and he said that he can get very violent, and that I was pushing his buttons).

I've been praying, and have had others praying for him but not really seeing any changes....

PLEASE: Only reply to this thread if you are Baptist...That's why I posted it in here...I only want the opinions of Baptists....Thank you....

Because he claims he is saved...He also tries to tell me how to live a Christian life...I have found total peace now that I am back with Jesus, and I have greatly enjoyed fellowship with other Christians....However, just about everything that comes out of his mouth about God and Jesus makes me mad or angry....I don't feel the Spirit from him at all....

It's a real long story all the things he has done and said....

Two things he has done recently...Laughed when I told him back in ancient Celtic times they put people in cages and burned them to death (early beginnings of Halloween in case you didn't know)....

And tonight in church I just felt he was just not Godly....There was a guest in church tonight who used to drink before he was saved...this guy confronted him ,and was prying out of him what bars he used to frequent then laughed at him..He did this on the altar...

We don't need the whole story, but certain specifics would help. It seems you have someone trying to tell others how to live right before God, though not doing it himself, and you have equated that to being a false prophet. Is this correct?

Do you see others following his advice, and mistaking it for something from God? Is he in a place of authority at Church, where others are expected to follow him? Is he is in a position to lead or teach others? That may be a "false prophet" in the most general terms, but there may be other, more specific, terms to describe what he is.

It may be that he qualifies as a "false prophet," but as was stated above, it seems more like a fleshy, worldly sinner who goes to Church, and pushes his EGO on everyone out of pride. The Churches often have people like that, and a good church will get rid of the person. If he is there for any amount of time, the Church should have complaints, and start having meetings.

If it seems you are the ONLY person who notices that his behavior is suspect, be cautious. Watch to see if he offends or pushes someone else around, and then follow the words of Jesus from scripture.

Matthew 18
15 ¶ Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
Do not take this lightly. A person may irritate you a little, but be cheating someone else in the Church. Be careful and watchful. Others may have reasons they like him, and you may get into trouble with them if you oppose him. If this is true, you may need to find a different Church.

He's not a false prophet. He's an unbeliever. He needs to be shown the light of Christ, and evangelized.

Alcoholics do "have issues" ... even those 17 years in recovery. Some of them have lengthy recovery but no real grasp of the peace that is taught in AA and other 12-step programs. Why? Because they fail to grasp that the founders of AA, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, were Christian men who, during their own chronic drunkenness, were beaten over the head with the Bible. They found a way to introduce Christ in love and hope, not judgment and condemnation as their families and friends had attempted to "reach them" for Christ.

Study the Big Book (The first edition, which hasn't been watered down or cleansed by subsequent generations of AA members) and read The History of Alcoholics Anonymous to better understand where the program came from, and try to help your friend understand where the root of his trust in AA really lies.

yes this is it...He is extremely difficult to deal with, and makes me angry...Since I have come back to the Lord I have had just about total peace in my life....He, however, gets under my skin....

I just came back to the Lord about a month ago after backsliding a number of years...I am trying to get settled in a church...I know that Matthew scripture you quoted...I was actually going to do that...hey have a men's meeting this Saturday....Kind of hang out, and get to know each other...I was thinking of going to meet the guys, and bring this up....

thanks for your post....I can see by your response you are filled with the Spirit....thanks brother....

he actually has been baptized with water...Not sure what church or denomination though...he has gone to so many different churches it's hard to keep track....I have tried peacefully evangelizing, after praying, and it seems he does not want to hear it from me....He's "been a Christian for 17 yrs" or something.......I only came back to the Lord a month ago....He even threw that at me..."well, how long have you been back with the Lord now".....Even though it's been only a month I've been on fire for the Lord...He's been using me to witness like crazy it seems....Heck, the first week after I was back God used me to witness to one of my sister's, and WHAMMMMM ! SHE GOT SAVED !!!! PRAISE THE LORD !!!!! my first family member that was saved !!!!!

Anyways, my "friend", has had nothing nice to say about my sister's salvation....He actually was trying to quote the bible that she may be like a seed planted in poor ground, and could die and whither away !!!!!

He set me off on that one, and I kind of spoke loudly on that one to him in the cafe we were in saying something like, "YOU THINK MY SISTER IS GOING TO HELL? ??? "

It's been such a blessing...you can truly see is saved....she likes to speak of Jesus...It's just beautiful.....

thanks for listing those books though it seems as if I got my plate full with the bible right now...I am trying to read the whole thing through right now for the first time....Do they have cliff notes on it ? Or can you provide a brief synopsis ?

What do you mean when you say where the root of his trust really lies ?

thanks for your response

yes this is it...
This is not a false prophet in the strictest sense. This is not a backslidden brother from your description. You have described a fellow who is not submitted to God, and cannot stay in one place very long because of it. BE CAUTIOUS.

This person may get violent or threatening, as I have heard of others like him. One fellow tried to cheat me, but never got past "square one." Instead, he cheated and extorted from nice older ladies, and only then, after it having been known he did it before, was he confronted. They say that he was threatening and accusatory when they tried to discuss it with him.

Many Churches are so glad the fellow leaves, that they make it easy for other Churches to take him on, and the fellow does not get confronted. If this Church does not intend to follow through, it is not the best place for you anyhow. If you love the LORD, you would want them to confront you if they think you are doing wrong.

...I know that Matthew scripture you quoted...I was actually going to do that...hey have a men's meeting this Saturday....Kind of hang out, and get to know each other...I was thinking of going to meet the guys, and bring this up...
If you have told him to stop doing certain things, or told him certain things he did were wrong, your initial responsibility is satisfied. If this is more than something irritating to you (as you indicated it is,) go to a trusted Pastor, or Deacon, or other person, to find out the way they wish to handle it.

If you are not careful, you will immediately look like one who cannot get along with others, and it all becomes a thing of one person's opinion over another's. Until you know how the Church handles these things, don't try to straightened out the matter without this other input.

Church discipline is not handled correctly in many Churches. Watch and see how others react to the fellow, and see if you are able to get another person to go with you to him before addressing the whole Church with it.

I spoke to someone (after Church) about what happened DURING A CHURCH SERVICE, and they were bothered that I addressed them directly. It is exactly what we are told to do in these scriptures, but most people refuse the words of Jesus on the matter.

Here is the answer:

Mark 3:28-30New International Version (NIV)

28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

That's terrible that people would refuse to believe or listen to what Jesus says on a matter....More so if they are saved....
It is not our business to determine if someone is saved or not. It is not the preachers' business, either, but so many cannot resist the power that comes from telling people these things to get them to come back to Church.

There are books you can read that will help you. Some of these have been around and stood the test of time. One of my favorite is the following:

THE STRAIT GATE;
OR,
GREAT DIFFICULTY OF GOING TO HEAVEN:
PLAINLY PROVING, BY THE SCRIPTURES,
THAT NOT ONLY THE RUDE AND PROFANE,
BUT MANY GREAT PROFESSORS,
WILL COME SHORT OF THAT KINGDOM.

by John Bunyan (1628-1688)

http://www.achristianspirit.com/StraitGate.html

Jesus said the following, and we should believe it as the truth. We should believe that it applies to us and to everyone else, too.

Matthew 7
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 20
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Luke 13
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
It has been true since the days of the LORD's nativity, and since. It has been true since the days of Adam, and since. Very few are as interested in this as they say or pretend to be. A person is not saved because they said a few words, but because they repented, turned the opposite direction they were going, and sought the LORD from the heart. The person whose heart is broken over their sin is the one the LORD is looking to save.

Jeremiah 29
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Joel 2
12 ¶ Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

Psalm 34
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Isaiah 66
2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

...Can a false prophet receive Jesus as their savior ? ...Thank you....
Not sure if the person you ask about is saved, because we have only what few words you have given us, and that is not sufficient to determine the state this person is in. As long as you remain submitted to the LORD, and humble before Him, you will likely have the right answer, and these things will work out for the glory of the LORD.

Here is the answer:

Mark 3:28-30 ...
The issue is clearly that a sinner can be saved. The answer is clearly that the sins not covered in that statement are specific things.

However, the real issue is more about Not Being Saved versus Cannot Be Saved. The question has a clear answer, but the issue is likely more about not being saved. People are not saved if they go their own way, seek what they want instead of what pleases the LORD, and hold to their EGO and Fallen Human Nature, rather than submit to the LORD. The salvation of the LORD brings humility, for the person the LORD saves has a sight of themselves before the holy God.

There are so many points at which someone who starts to follow the LORD is turned away. The difficulties are accompanied with temptations, and this is a technique used by the enemy like a fisherman uses bait and hook. These people are turned back for causes in their own heart, and how they respond to people and things around them that draw them away.

No one comes to Jesus to be saved unless the Father draws them by His Holy Spirit. If, instead, the person is drawn away the opposite direction by their lusts, they are not even getting close to the salvation we all need so desperately.
