I did NOT call anyone a fool - GOD DID! And I am of the opinion that before people jump on the net and start teaching Bible, they ought to read it. It is my opinion that people ought to KNOW what God says BEFORE they start telling others what He said.

As for me, I care less if anyone agrees with me or not, But I strongly resent anyone making God a liar in the name of Christianity.

When I post a Scripture and am responded to with "Ha" "But" followed by a misquote of Jesus, I will defend God everytime.

God is NOT a liar! And people who call themselves Christian better be careful how they say "HA" to His Word.

Gerry, your accusations are pretty harsh.

I did not misquote anything. I did however, quote out of context. Jesus was referring to how we should treat our bretheren. I'm kind of confused though by your response. There was no Christian church at the time that Jesus said that. He was talking to a crowd of people at a time before his plan for salvation had come to fruition. If the term "brother" could not be applied to Christians (of which there were none yet) then I am inclined to believe He meant everyone.

I was agreeing that while I do believe no one can be an honest athiest, I don't think *treating* him as a liar or a fool is helpful. It is God's perogative to make those judgements about individual people, not ours.

I might be wrong about every conclusion I've drawn. It is always a very distinct possibility. But IMO, it does not justify the blasting that you've given me here today.

Okay here we go evening mist... i am the leader of FCA at my school...and one of my peers asked me what they should do if someone asked them if the bible was real or told them that God wasn't real.. and then the peer brought up the subject of what i just said... and i told the peer that i would get back with 'em thursday...so what should i say to them... i mean is it true that if someone says that they don't believe in God or a god that they had to believe in God or a god sometime or another...so what do you think?? i wasn't trying to offend anyone...lol..just wanted to know... i try my hardest not to offend anyone..lol...anyways

I have read the bible. I have done course work on the bible. I've been brought up in bible studies my whole life. Lots of people claim to "know" what God says in the bible. Curiously, everyone seems to have a different "knowledge" of it. So, I don't think I can ever claim to "know" the way that you do, because I'm afraid I'll always be second guessing myself. So, if I follow your advice, then I guess I won't be able to participate in any conversation about the Bible, ever. Which doesn't seem very fair to me.

I never meant for you to be so offended by me.

But yes, I think everyone has some knowlege of God embossed on their hearts by God himself. Like a newborn child searches to nurse at his mother's breast, so we search for the God we know created us.

But if someone told me that they didn't believe in God in any way, shape or form -- I guess I would treat him as though I believed his words, because calling him a liar would not be helpful, IMO.

But, all this is what I think and nothing more.

I am sorry you have had to correct me publically. I was in fact trying to help you.

I hope you will keep a copy of your previous post. After a few more years of Bible Study, you may enjoy once again reading your words.

As for harsh, you have not seen me harsh.

Harsh is when Jesus said: Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Harsh is when Paul said: Galations 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Harsh is when I join Paul and say: "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Gal. 1:10

I have found the best way to learn is to open the ears and close the mouth. And that is how I will learn from you.

I notice you've mentioned reading the Bible and participating in alot of Bible studies. And I hope you don't mind me asking. But have you read the Bible with the Holy Spirit teaching you?

On your question about  "universal brotherhood". IMO Christians should treat athiest with kindness and respect. However, Christians also need to recognize that they are not members of the same spritual family as non-believers. In this sense they are not "brothers" or "sisters" with non-believers. Within the the scriptures is ample support for this belief as well as instructions to Christians as to how they should interact with those who do not believe.

Samaritans weren't of the same spiritual brotherhood as Jews, but what did Christ say about them as possible neighbors, compared to people of the same spiritual brotherhood?

Having been an atheist for a number of years, yes, it's possible. Lots of people never really have any belief, and little reason to. Frankly, one of the reasons I was an atheist for a long time was all the people insisting that I was lying or stupid. I was neither; I was not yet convinced.

I think often the thing they disbelieve is not the reality of God, but the stories they hear about Him from us, and given the kind of hypocrites we can be, well...

I don't think it's appropriate to claim that people "really" believe in God; it's just as offensive as it would be for them to tell you that you don't "really" believe in God, you just say that because you're confused.

Which, I can tell you from personal experience, is pretty offensive. On both sides.

Yes. Unfortunately, when we don't agree about what God's Word says, it's very hard for us to reach much fellowship based on those disagreements. Furthermore, it can be hard for some of us to feel fellowship when our friends or neighbors, whom we love, are attacked, no matter how well-meaning the attack is, or how much it wasn't intended as an attack.

I'm not Evening Mist, but having read a number of her posts, I'd say it sure seems likely. Some of us have to struggle with faith, and it's harder for some than others. But... She seems deeply rooted in the Word, and I think it's reasonable to assume that God is guiding her to Him in the way He sees best.

Really Seebs, do you attack people without intending too? Do you "accidentally" attack people?

I defend God and when a direct quote is posted and responded ot with "HA", I will respond ebvery time.

I see in Evening Mist a person struggling with faith. Those of us to whom faith is a struggle, not a given assumption, tend to empathize with each other. I have read many of her posts; I assumed the person asking hadn't had the pleasure.

Please take the questioning my salvation to another thread. Perhaps we can start one in General Apologetics; "Is Seebs Saved?". We could have a poll!

Tragically, the One who gets the sole vote seems not to have registered an account here yet.
