• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I read it awhile back and thought it had some good things to say about OCD in general. If it had any principles in it relating to buddhism, I didn't notice or it's possible, I did notice but just disregarded them. (principle of "chewing up the meat and spitting out the bones", ya know?) It's been awhile since I read that book but I don't remember anything objectionable about it. If I can locate it, I'll take another look.

As I recall, my only disappointment in it is that it had very little in it regarding "religious OCD." Nevertheless, I gleaned some stuff from it and I would recommend it to those battling OCD.

I read Brainlock a few years ago and I thoroughly recommend it. I don't remember anything that could remotely be seen as Buddhist. Although it doesn't specifically focus on scrupulosity (I think it mentions it in passing), the principles apply to all kinds of OCD and I found them helpful. It basically describes 4 steps to dealing with the thoughts when they come, such as acknowledging that this is an OCD thought because of a chemical imbalance in my brain. It is not reality, therefore I don't need to pay it any attention so I'll just ignore it (which is basically Exposure-Response Therapy). Something like that. It also shows some brain scans of how people with OCD are overactive in a certain part of the brain, giving assurance that it really is a chemical problem and not that we are evil.

Highly recommended if you can get hold of it.

Has anyone read the doubting disease?
Q
Yes, I have recently read "The Doubting Disease," and I would recommend it though a lot of it is a bit "clinical and technical." I still would recommend it, however, for those battling OCD.

Has anyone read the book Who Switched Off My Brain Controlling Toxic Thoughts? I saw part of the interview on Life Today with the dr who wrote it.
She teaches about how thoughts & emtions link together in the brain & how to help the brain create new pathways instead of toxic ones.
