Books do you keep em once read or throw them away?

I keep my books if there's something in them that I know I'll want to reread at some point in my life. Even worse than that - if I read a book from the library, and know I'll want to reread it later... I'll go out and buy it! Usually used from Amazon. I've had too many cases of going back to find the library book only to discover it's been discarded!

There's somehting called a Library up here. I'm pretty sure they exist in many major cities and many towns across North America, Eastern Asia, and Western Europe, at least.

It provides free books. Here, it's funded by property taxes and overdue fines (I currently owe $9.90). It has current books, and many good ones. The concept of buying books does not click with me.

I keep them once I read them.

Most get boxed up though and aren't kept in my bookcase.

Some that I know I won't ever read again I've set aside to be sold in garage sales or on Half.com.

i have a books shelf of books i havnt read yet, including jude the obscure and the mayor of castorbridge. When i am finished with my books, if they are really good (like fall on your knees, the english patient, in the skin of a lion, a fine balance) i keep and do not lend to anyone. I used to buy very expensive books on islam, but my husband started lending them to his friends and not getting them back, so i stopped. I collect a book called the rubiyat of omar khayam because each version has different illustrations. I buy second hand books from a store near me and from value village (awesome books ) and good will. right now i am reading 'Journeyman' a collection of essays and such by Timothy findlay and it is brillant.

I get emotionally attached to books, so it's hard for me to let them go, but I always ask myself, "Are you going to read this book again?" If the answer is no, then I take it off the shelf. When I have enough books that I don't need anymore, I take them to a used bookstore, trade them in, and use the credit to buy new books. I also try to buy used books as often as possible -- they have more flavor to them and it saves cash. abebooks.com is a great site if anyone isn't familiar with it.

I love books and have a very difficult time getting rid of ANY of them! However, about twice a year, I go through them and give lots of them to my church library and offer them the option of keeping them in the library or putting them in the once-a-year book sale. The book sale is on a "donation" type system and we use the money to buy current books for the library.

I keep all my books unless its completely wretched and not worth gracing my bookshelf, but I do not throw them away. I think throwing away books is blasphemy.

Bookworm? yes.
and I used to read a LOT. It's died down somewhat since school is getting harder and harder. less time for reading books I want to read.

Only one of my friends reads on a very regular basis, and he doesn't go to school (works as a bike courier, a job I would love to have in a few years.)

There are only a few authors that I will buy from @ this point. Rowling, King (don't diss me on that, please), Patterson and Grisham. I have thought about starting the star wars series. Just haven't had the chance to do it. The authors that I buy from, they are hardcover only. I like stuff looking uniform on my bookshelf and looking nice. I'm anal when it comes to that. If a book starts to look worn a little bit, I'll buy another copy! I know!!!! Wierdo! But that's the way I am. I like my books read, but looks as if it ws just picked up on the shelf of barnes and noble.

Buy them, save them, definitely keep them. I'll sell them if they turn out to be utter garbage, but other than that, I will usually always keep them unless I/we feel that we need to give it to a friend.

I keep every book I read. I like to personally interact with the author as I uderline, highlight, and write my own comments in the book. Each book I have is a unique conversation. Is this a bit weird? Yes. Am I going to change? No.

I love my books. I often go back and read sections of books that I have been through. It is impossible to remember everything, and I believe it necessary to keep them available for reference.

I love books.
I would keep most books, but my house would be over full.
Most of the books I read are from the library. (In England we have free access to books through a state run library system.) If I really like a book I'll go and buy a copy. Occasionally I will throw books away. But mainly I recycle them by giving them to charity shops or jumble sales.

I take them to The Book Rack, a local used book store that gives trade in credit. I just picked up 3 novels for an upcoming vacation trip and they only cost .23¢

We have a local used book store that allows customers trade-in value on books. My wife and I will save up for a couple of months, then take them in for credit on other used books. Saves us money, and keeps our shelves from getting cluttered.

My sentiments exactly. Love my books and write all over them. Stickies, highlighters, underlining, notes...they are "used".
