Thread: A Soul for a Secret
Name: Boaz Adair
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 180 lbs.
Appearance: Boaz has the look of a man who has worked hard most of his life, and he has. His skin, already somewhat tanned, has turned bronze on his arms, face, and part of his chest due to his constant work outside in the sun. He's not as brawny as some men, but he is strong and very capable in his work, his hands calloused from years of toil. His dark blue eyes are kind and full of laughter as he's just starting to develop "crow's feet" at the edges from smiling. His hair is a dark brown and slightly curly, though not in the tight ringlets of his daughter, Lyra's, hair. His curls are larger, so that they hang in wavy tresses about his forehead, ears and collar.
Personality: Boaz is, first and foremost, a father. He adores Lyra and it shows in the way he dotes on her. He's a hardworking man, though he's never had much money. Before his wife's disappearance, he was generally full of laughter and wit, constantly bantering and teasing with her. But now, he's become more solemn, a man of few words. He tries not to let his grief show, pushing himself in his work so that at the end of the day he's so tired he collapses in bed, asleep before his head hits the pillow. That way, he won't have to lay there missing his wife next to him. The only person he talks freely with is Lyra, but she became mute after her mother disappeared. Neither of them were the same.
Background: Boaz was the son of a farmer. When his father retired, Boaz took over the farm with his new bride, Faelwen. For nearly nine years they worked the land and raised their only child, Lyra, poor but happy. And then Lyra fell ill. Boaz and Faelwen tried everything they could to cure her, even bringing in a healer from a nearby village, but nothing worked. Their precious daughter was slowly dying. Until one morning Boaz awoke to find Lyra miraculously well. It was a miracle and for some time he believed all would be right again. But it wasn't to be. His wife became ill, not in body, but in her mind and in her spirit. She was depressed and had bad dreams at night. She became violent with Boaz more than once when he tried to awaken her from a nightmare and then she finally refused to sleep at night for fear of them. This went on for a few months until one day she simply disappeared. He searched everywhere for her, even allowing himself to look in places her body might be had she decided to kill herself. But he never found her. Lyra changed after that. She no longer spoke and seemed less like a child somehow. He had hoped that, in time, she would open up to him but she has remained mute to this day. He continues to work his land as hard as he can, providing for the daughter he treasures now more than ever and grieving for a wife he lost.
