  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

  • The rule regarding AI content has been updated. The rule now rules as follows:

    Be sure to credit AI when copying and pasting AI sources. Link to the site of the AI search, just like linking to an article.

Am I missing some big clue here, or does anyone else not understand why some people make such a big fuss over IRC. Personally, I tried it, and I found it to be confusing as heck... and a lot the people were rude... and I couldn't find anything.

I don't know what you mean by people making a big fuss out of IRC.

People sure can be rude. But did you expect otherwise? There are kind and rude people everywhere you go.

Not sure what you mean by 'finding things.' IRC is mildly organized chaos, not a search engine. You mean it was hard to find a channel you like?

It's a bit more confusing than, say, Yahoo Chat, but you will learn the commands quickly.

As far as chatting goes it's the most widely used, accessible, open forum. It is what it is! Always sophomoric, sometimes helpful, sometimes annoying, sometimes fun.

Meh, it sure is chaotic. By finding stuff I was talking about fservers. IRC is supposedly a gold mine for anime stuff, but so far I've had trouble finding anything worthwhile that wasn't already on edonkey. The folks are a lot less hostile on edonkey too. lol.

There is a search engine tool you can use to find files on IRC. I can't remember what it's called. Google for it, or ask on #help!

I've never swapped files on IRC. I assumed you'd just go to #anime or whatever and ask if people want to swap via DCC transfer. But I know nothing about all that. Good luck!

Sometimes the hostility can be created through misunderstanding. Long-running channels have a certain set of rules that new users often violate. If the channel has a website with rules try to read that before speaking up.
