The Senate passed a resolution, 51-48, to end tariffs on Canada.
Paul, McConnell, Collins, and Murkowski joined Democrats.
The House has more extremists (according to media) and is not expected to follow suit....yet.
Their constituents will be banging at their doors soon.

Does this Senate resolution actually have the authority to stop the tariffs?

No, but Trump's orders are on extremely shaky Constitutional grounds--only Congress can enact tariffs except when there is a national emergency.

And let's face it, compared to what we have experienced the last few days, the "real" national emergency, the pretend emergency he invented to violate the Constitution will never hold up.

By the time the lawsuits hit the courts, the country will be in such upheaval that even Trump appointees will see very clearly the difference between the "national emergency" in the case before them compared to the invented emergency on which they were based.

It does. If passed by the House it would end the "emergency" Trump used to justify the tariffs with Canada. (And Mexico?)

Haven't they redefined days to make sure the emergency stays on?

For the regular (legally prescribed) privileged path to action on the floor, so they are working the long, slow path of "discharge petition" instead.

Sounds like the kind of traitorous action that needs an emergency executive order to prevent.

At the moment I think it is fair to say that it is unknown whether Trump and his tariffs are constitutional. The Wall Street Journal today had an article that this business that already filed a lawsuit over the tariffs has a strong case. Florida stationery firm sues Trump over China tariffs - UPI.com

Here is more information on Congress and the Presidents power. The President does have powers because Congress gave it to them but as it is the duty of Congress, they could rescind that power anytime. Also, Trump may have exceeded his lawful power as the court case above implies. How Congress delegates its tariff powers to the president | Constitution Center
