Yep I even read an article in time magazine about that there stuff that you are talking about.Universal common ancestry... do you know what that means?
You need to read the surveys that show that MOST people in American believe in God. That means they believe in Divine Cause. There are quite a few YEC people that claim the earth is only 6,000 years old but if they did their homework they would see the evidence that Bill Nye and science has to substantiate what we learn from Science about the age of the Earth and the age of the Universe. American maybe disconnected from religion but they do believe in God. Bill Nye shows us why people are not more connected because the religions are having a problem keeping up with Science and the new evidence and discoveries we have.
I don't believe it. Of course The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a United States government agency, so when you got the Government involved in anything esp the Federal Government you can be sure they will make a mess out of things. That is why we look forward to the 1,000 year reign of Christ when God will be running the show and not man.Not so fast Sherlock..
The National Science Foundation.. (NSF =same folks who just made history detecting gravity waves), did a study in 2012 and found that 1 in 4 people (That is 25% of the population) does not understand that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way around.
People in the USA are idiots.. Well, at least 25% of them are. Generally I would jump on your use of the bandwagon fallacy but the way you've used it here isn't totally unacceptable.. That said, the NSF numbers are frighteningly disturbing.
NEVER EVER look at what the rest of the USA is doing or thinking as a basis for comparison or decision making. Of the 300 million people here, only about 1% are very intelligent, 25% are of average intelligence, the other ~75% are complete morons with the educational intelligence of an 18 year old under performing high school student, or less.. (I think I was being generous there).
Also, the "religiousity" meter (Godometer?) is falling as people lose faith in the mythology that makes up religion. They quoted some specific numbers but I forget what they were.. I just remember that within about 50 years, religion in America as we know it today won't exist. Its going to be demoted to the equivalent of a hobby or a cult status.
**Cough** Cough **gag**That is why we look forward to the 1,000 year reign of Christ when God will be running the show and not man.
You can not tell me the exact age of the earth. You can not tell me if God created the Sun or the Moon first.
Yes I do and I have done a lot of the math myself. There is a direct relation between the spin down rate of the earth and the receding rate of the moon. This is one of the reasons that the earth is a unique biosphere and this duel plant thing we got going here is going to be difficult to duplicate elsewhere in the universe. The Earth is 4540±20 million years old. The Sun is about 30 million years older; it began to form about 4570 million years ago.
The Moon is younger. It was formed from the material ejected by a collision between the Earth and another planet. However, the Moon's age is uncertain; there appear to be two sets of results, one about 4.53±0.02 billion years and the other about 4.47±0.03 billion years. However, it seems fairly definite that the Moon is tens of millions of years younger than the Earth.
Are you willing to accept these scientific findings?
I am pretty sure the Bible says one third will be saved from all nations, tongues, tribes and people. That means 2/3 of the people are going to perish. Jesus said many take the broad way to destruction. Few take the narrow road that leads to life. "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."Also, the "religiousity" meter (Godometer?) is falling as people lose faith in the mythology that makes up religion.
There is a reason why God has two chronologies. They do not contradict they are complimentary. Only it is considered to be very advanced to understand that. Many people on here are trying to decipher the Bible without even a third grade level of understanding. There are graduate level students that have a struggle to understand the message for us today in the Bible, God's written word. Yet we are told that only children are able to understand. So it is all a paradox.Ussher never gave the date of 4004BC for the beginning of the world. however. That was something his followers did. Also, your case for Genesis is very weak because it does not address the fact that we are dealing with two contradictory chronologies, to begin with.
So you can't live with the fact that humanity doesn't know all the answers to every question, and would rather fill it with a deity than allow yourself to admit any degree of ignorance? Sounds like a personal problem.I can understand that because of the way I was raised. My father was a doctor and he had a LOT of faith in science and what they could accomplish. Back then they had seen a lot of death and destruction from WW2 and people were really tired of it. There was a lot of childhood disease and they worked hard to come up with vaccines to prevent those diseases. My father was a very good doctor and he saved a lot of lives. Only for me I had problems that science could not solve and questions that science could not answer. So I looked and looked and looked for solutions and answers. Finally someone said to try God, read the Bible, pray and ask the Holy Spirit of God to show me the meaning of the Bible. I started to understand and I found that it all worked for me. Of course there is a lot more to my story then just this, but I do not want to bore people with it. Still I grew up in a good family, we were a pillar of the community. My grandfather had been mayor so we were well established. I should have been very happy and content. But there was something missing in my life and I found what was missing when I found God or perhaps He found me.
Oh please... have you got nothing better to do than to nitpick?Bill Nye is point blank anti Creationism. Yet when you listen to what he says, he admits he is against his understanding of Creationism. If you try to discern his understanding then it turns out that he is against Young Earth Creationism. He is against the idea that the earth was created 6,000 years ago. If you look up the meaning: "Creationism is the religious belief that the Universe and life originated "from specific acts of divine creation." So there is a difference between Creationism and Young Earth Creationism. This is why Ken Ham accuses Bill Nye of using bait and switch. He talks against Creationism but he argues against young earth creationism. He appears to be a honest sincere person but what Bill Nye is doing is misleading and dishonest. If he were a business man and not a scientist it would be against the law. The government demands truth in advertising, so they should demand truth in Science. IF Bill Nye wants to maintain his integrity then he should qualify that he is not against Creationism, he is against Young Earth Creationism. Or he should present his evidence to show that Creation could not have been a Divine Act.
We call it: "accurately handling the word of truth".Oh please... have you got nothing better to do than to nitpick?
I call it what it is - nitpicking. We call it: "accurately handling the word of truth".
WOW it is as if every single one of you atheists try to project your problems out on others. None of you seem to be able to confront yourselves. " first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."So you can't live with the fact that humanity doesn't know all the answers to every question, and would rather fill it with a deity than allow yourself to admit any degree of ignorance? Sounds like a personal problem.
Call it whatever you want. We have our dictionary and you have yours.I call it what it is - nitpicking.
Is the word "nitpicking" in yours?Call it whatever you want. We have our dictionary and you have yours.
This is a broad definition that could even include theistic evolution. Seems a bit meaningless."Creationism is the religious belief that the Universe and life originated "from specific acts of divine creation."
Yes, but it's ultimately not about the age. It's about whether you think species were created separately or evolved. He is against the idea that the earth was created 6,000 years ago.
