  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well but I don't think Bill Nye is saying that we shouldn't believe God created everything. I think his problem is w the stuff ppl peddle that clearly goes against all we already know like that the earth isn't young, dinos & ppl didn't live alongside each other, evolution is fact. None of that stuff means that God couldn't have created. The only ones who have a problem are the ones who read Genesis literally & for real that's bad theology. They need to work out the theology problem 1st & then I think they'll be OK w science.

Not so fast Sherlock..
The National Science Foundation.. (NSF =same folks who just made history detecting gravity waves), did a study in 2012 and found that 1 in 4 people (That is 25% of the population) does not understand that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way around.
People in the USA are idiots.. Well, at least 25% of them are. Generally I would jump on your use of the bandwagon fallacy but the way you've used it here isn't totally unacceptable.. That said, the NSF numbers are frighteningly disturbing.

NEVER EVER look at what the rest of the USA is doing or thinking as a basis for comparison or decision making. Of the 300 million people here, only about 1% are very intelligent, 25% are of average intelligence, the other ~75% are complete morons with the educational intelligence of an 18 year old under performing high school student, or less.. (I think I was being generous there).

Also, the "religiousity" meter (Godometer?) is falling as people lose faith in the mythology that makes up religion. They quoted some specific numbers but I forget what they were.. I just remember that within about 50 years, religion in America as we know it today won't exist. Its going to be demoted to the equivalent of a hobby or a cult status.

I don't believe it. Of course The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a United States government agency, so when you got the Government involved in anything esp the Federal Government you can be sure they will make a mess out of things. That is why we look forward to the 1,000 year reign of Christ when God will be running the show and not man.

You can not tell me the exact age of the earth. You can not tell me if God created the Sun or the Moon first.

The Earth is 4540±20 million years old. The Sun is about 30 million years older; it began to form about 4570 million years ago.

The Moon is younger. It was formed from the material ejected by a collision between the Earth and another planet. However, the Moon's age is uncertain; there appear to be two sets of results, one about 4.53±0.02 billion years and the other about 4.47±0.03 billion years. However, it seems fairly definite that the Moon is tens of millions of years younger than the Earth.

Are you willing to accept these scientific findings?

Yes I do and I have done a lot of the math myself. There is a direct relation between the spin down rate of the earth and the receding rate of the moon. This is one of the reasons that the earth is a unique biosphere and this duel plant thing we got going here is going to be difficult to duplicate elsewhere in the universe.

Sometimes I wonder if the whole universe does not revolved around the earth and if the whole universe was not created for us. Because we were created from the universe and I have found most evolutionary relationships are symbiotic. So if we are star stuff, if we were created from the Universe then who is to say the Universe was not created for us.

Ussher never gave the date of 4004BC for the beginning of the world. however. That was something his followers did. Also, your case for Genesis is very weak because it does not address the fact that we are dealing with two contradictory chronologies, to begin with.

I am pretty sure the Bible says one third will be saved from all nations, tongues, tribes and people. That means 2/3 of the people are going to perish. Jesus said many take the broad way to destruction. Few take the narrow road that leads to life. "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."

There is a reason why God has two chronologies. They do not contradict they are complimentary. Only it is considered to be very advanced to understand that. Many people on here are trying to decipher the Bible without even a third grade level of understanding. There are graduate level students that have a struggle to understand the message for us today in the Bible, God's written word. Yet we are told that only children are able to understand. So it is all a paradox.

"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Mat 18 3

So you can't live with the fact that humanity doesn't know all the answers to every question, and would rather fill it with a deity than allow yourself to admit any degree of ignorance? Sounds like a personal problem.

Of all the reasons people seek faith, the one I view as the least justified is being unsatisfied with a lack of answers to certain questions. People need to learn to accept that not everything is known yet, and thus use that as motivation to find the answers rather than seek out some ancient one people used before we had tools to observe the world enough to know better. And this is coming from a person who seeks faith primarily out of fear.

WOW it is as if every single one of you atheists try to project your problems out on others. None of you seem to be able to confront yourselves. " first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

"Creationism is the religious belief that the Universe and life originated "from specific acts of divine creation."
This is a broad definition that could even include theistic evolution. Seems a bit meaningless.
He is against the idea that the earth was created 6,000 years ago.
Yes, but it's ultimately not about the age. It's about whether you think species were created separately or evolved.
