We heard about the Archbishop Gomez letter that was embargoed by the Vatican for several hours, and the harsh criticism of that letter by cardinal Cupich. Damian Thompson has a good but pointed explainer about all of that, current to just a few days ago and found here:

How the Vatican tried to suppress criticism of the new president | Holy Smoke | The Spectator

But then I see reported that cardinal Cupich has just had a meeting with pope Francis. What got said isn't reported, just that they met on Saturday.

Pope Francis meets with Cardinal Cupich after Biden inauguration statement dispute

So what did they talk about? Did Francis console poor cardinal Cupich after he got his feelings hurt by so many of his fellow bishops not going along with him? Or did Francis give him a dressing down? Or something else? Maybe on who should be picked as bishop in any new vacancies? Who knows?

Maybe we will find out what was said. Or not. But whether we do or don't, I expect the wounds introduced by this affair will continue to do damage at least as long as Biden is president. So maybe there will be a reprieve for the USCCB when Biden is replaced or retires and we no longer have a devout Catholic as president. In the mean time it is yet one more scandal, that of having a devout Catholic president and at the same time the most rabid pro-abortion and anti-marriage president ever.
