I don't know if this is the right forum to be in but anyway... What would be a good book to start in if you are new at reading the bible? would you all have any thing that would help me understand the bible better. I hope that I can get some good ideas to start reading the bible more.

Thanks,

Jaime

I always recommend 1 John to people who are just starting to read the Bible. I do a new believer's class at my church an I've found that's the best foundation to start with.

Like what? Is there something in particular that you're having a hard time understanding?

I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have and you canfeel free to PM me, if you want but the best thing you can do is get into a good, Bible believing church that preaches the Gospel.

Have you done that?

For people unfamiliar with the Bible, such as new Christians, commonly it is recommended to read the Gospel of John first. If you really want to learn about Jesus, read the Gospel of John and then SATURATE yourself with the rest of the entire New Testament. To get SERIOUS with God, then follow with the Old Testament, and then do it all over again...and again...and again!

If I was only allowed one reference alongside my Bible, I would instantly grab my 5 volume set of "Thru The Bible with J. Vernon McGee." It is an easy to understand verse-by-verse commentary written with the intention to "put the cookies on the bottom shelf where you can reach them." Outstanding! (But it is 5 volumes, so you would have to either save your money or buy each volume separately from Thru The Bible Radio).

Yeah I'd say Luke or John are great places to start Bible reading. Ephesians & Philippians are really cool too, very encouraging. But basically if u're new to reading the Bible I'd say stay in the New Testament and cruise around there for a little while. It's great.
As far as understanding the Bible better, besides having someone to talk with about what you're reading, having a translation you can understand is the best thing. The Message translation is my favorite.

First I'd say get a modern translation to start with, because it makes it easier to get in the habit of daily reading. I would then say start with the gospels, I would recommend John, and at first concentrate on the New Testament. Just make sure to read your Bible daily, and before you start just say a little prayer to ask God to show you his will through his Word
