Bob Dylan. He could beat John Mayer with any one of these songs, on its own: With God on Our Side, Talking World War III Blues, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), Desolation Row, 4th Time Around, etc. etc. etc.

And I actually really like Mayer. But Dylan's simply the best songwriter of all time. This one's easy.

i gave mayer my vote. I think he still has a lot of potential and probably has a few more great albums up his sleeves. I like Bob Dylan's songs, but i'm not too into his voice, and i don't know. I do think that dylan was one of the greatest songwriters. i just enjoy mayer as a whole a little better.

Is he a better artist? you can't really compare the two anyway, because mayer's still a new artist. who knows where he'll go.

an another thing- mayer's guitar skills are often underestimated and underappreciated.

The more I listen to his music, the more this seems an obvious conclusion. I don't see anyone coming close to being Bob Dylan's equal as a songwriter.
