Hiya,

I am a Baptist and I don't drink at all, that's my choice! I think drinking is another form of a legal drug that some people get addicted to.

I don't drink any alcohol at all becaue I take Vicodin everyday for my pain and it's not wise to do this. I drink lots of water instead!!

Jesus turned water into wine in the New Testiment, So, God knows peoples hearts, He knows if people are addicted to alcohol. It's Not wrong to drink as long as you're resposible for your actions. Even God says Not to do anything over moderation, He says to do this in Moderation!!

Blessings, \o/

Personally, I don't believe that God has anything against drinking IN MODERATION. I mean, he even made water into wine at the wedding in Cana! But he doesn't agree with getting drunk. There are many passages in the Bible that speak out against drunkenness such as Romans 13:13- "Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy." People do stupid things when they're drunk and are less likely to follow God's laws when they're inhibited.

Crazy Liz (and Gold Dragon) may find CL's statement,
"Don't take a baptist (sic) fishing, 'cause he'll drink all your beer."
to be humorous, but I (and I expect others) find it personally offensive. What gives her the right to come into a Baptist Only forun and unsult at least some of us? Liz, if you can't speak nice, then please stay out.

Excuse me!!!!!!

IT IS NOT BAPTIST ONLY!!!!!!

I thought we got over the Baptists wanting to get rid of the Anabaptists a long time ago.

Figure out who we are, Mr. Junior Member, before telling people they don't belong here.

I found your little "joke" to be offensive, CL. I do not come into this forum to be offended by anyone. Yes, I may be a "junior member", and yes, I already know who I am, and your comment was totally uncalled for and OFFENSIVE to me. I forgive you for making it, but I would also hope you used better judgement in the future with your posts.

Someone PLEASE show me how the wine at Canna was fermented. I would really like to know. As far as I can see, there is no mention either way.
Thanks

Of course it wasn't fermented. Fermentation takes time. It wasn't made from grapes, either. It was made from water.

That is not to say it didn't contain alcohol and all the other chemical components of fermented wine.

Or maybe it was Ariel.

Of course it was wine. The Bible says it was wine. As for how it was formented, it's called a miracle for a reason. We don't know what mechanism Christ use to ferment the wine, only that he took plain water, and made it into wine. Was it fermented? I don't know. Was it fresh grape juice? I don't know. But since it is a miracle, it wouldn't be beyond God to take plain water and make it into fermented wine just to prove it wasn't a case of mistaken identity, that it was something only God could do.

By the way, I took some of the grapes off the vines in my garden, smashed them, left them exposed to the air for a couple hours so they could catch the natural yeasts in the air, covered the pitcher with a dish cloth and left them alone to see how long it would take for grapes to naturally ferment. I harvested the grapes in August, and it's just now starting to smell like fermentation is taking place. I took a small sample last week to see if it tastes alcoholic and it still tastes like grape juice, no alcohol taste yet. The juice has gotten slightly lighter in color but that is the only change I can see.

We all know it was wine. But what we don't know is if it was fermented.

Those who take this verse and use it to justifty drinking fermented wine is saying more than what this verse is really stating.

Some people say, Well, its GOT to be ok to drink wine because Christ made wine, as if Christ was some bartender passing out wine glasses screaming DRINK AND BE MERRY!!!!!!!!!!

This bothers me.

You know, I've noticed a tendency for folks to look at what Jesus did or didn't do as a justification of whether or not something is sin. He didn't condemn the soldier who came to him for healing, therefore it must be okay to be a soldier. The Bible doesn't say the wine was fermented, therefore drinking is wrong. Jesus turned over the care of his mother (as firstborn, it was his responsibility to see to the needs of his mother for the rest of her life), therefore Mary is to be considered the mother of all believers.

But it's just false to do that. You can't determine whether or not the wine was alcoholic at Canna, but later in the gospels it says that people were accusing Jesus of being a drunkard because he drank wine and hung around with drunkards. Jesus didn't condemn the soldier, but many, many times he taught us how to deal with our enemies, and he never gave permission to kill them.

You have to look at the whole subject throughout the whole gospel, the whole Bible if necessary, and see all the circumstances and all the teachings and learn from those.

After looking at everything together, I am convinced that Jesus sometimes enjoyed wine that was alcoholic. Maybe not all the time, but at least once in a while, which is why his critics called him a winebiber, which means someone who drinks alcoholic wine. It was meant to ridicule him as a drunk and make people stop loving him and start laughing at him or scorning him.

The Bible even says that a little wine is good for you. Jesus never condemned it or taught against it. The OT warns not to do it to excess but cites times when it is appropriate. Jesus did it himself, so I don't think a little sip of wine now and then is really sin.
