I saw it last night.
It had a decent story, but the detail to the appearance of the blue people was excellent. Both facial and body motion were incredible.

It is a long movie, but the time passes fast. Too violent for young children, but passable for tweens.

I recommend it for anyone that likes sci-fi or action movies.

How was the 3D in it? I love the advancements it's making but I have my doubts about live action 3D at this point. We saw A Christmas Carol in 3D and loved it, but then you have other 3D moves that have come out and been disappointing in the 3D Department.

3D -- Had to say it one more time.

The 3D was amazing in Avatar. I remember the 3D from the 80s which wasn't so good so I didn't expect much. I actually didn't plan to see the 3D show as I expected to have to wait for the next showing. Since it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be we caught the 3D showing. Now I can't imagine watching it in 2D.

A huge laude for Weta Digital and Richard Taylor for their excellent CGI. It was perfectly flawless.
I thought it was the same ol' message wrapped up in a pretty package though, and it westernized Eastern philosophies. However, it was amazing to watch, and completely engrossing.

I saw it... loved it. Great movie and the visuals were amazing!!! Not sure if I'd have liked it as much if it was 2D though. I pretty much knew the whole story line already... and I thought parts of it dragged a bit... but wow, the visuals had my eyes doing backflips. And in 3D? It felt like you were standing right there. This has been the fourth film I've seen in 3D since it became "the thing to do" and it is most certainly the best as far as that goes. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly made it feel so life like where the 3D in other films was meh... There were parts where the characters looked like they were sitting right there in front of you. Like you were just looking through a window. Nothing really popped "out" of the screen but there was A LOT of depth created. The flying scenes, and scenes where they're on cliffs or way up high or whatever... looked fantastic.

And the creatures?!? I haven't been this floored by creatures in a movie since Jurassic Park. They breathed and moved and everything like living creatures. On the computer they did not look that impressive. But on the big screen? Wow! They looked like they were actual creatures used and didn't feel CG at all. Particularly liked that one scene where Jake gets to ride his first "horse" creature and the camera just kind of pans over it. It was fantastic looking! And the plants!! All those plants are CGI but they felt so life like and I just wanted to reach out and touch them. And then all the glowing colors at night? Wow, just made everything look more amazing.

See if man's imagination can be this fantastic, I can't even begin to imagine what God has in store for us in heaven.

Without giving too much away because any of you on the fence absolutely need to see this (if you live near an IMAX theatre, go now.), it's awesome.

1. The visuals (especially the battle sequences) are STUNNING. This coming from a guy who usually doesn't care about visuals, but it really felt like being in a different world. The guy I was with in the seat next to me would actually go wideeyed like a 10 year old when they'd introduce new creatures out of the jungles. And the concept of making cgi creations mesh perfectly with reality was done better than I expected. I wanted to pretend everything was real and Cameron made it very, very easy.

2. I'm not trying to sound freaky when I say this, but I LOVED Neytiri. She's awesome. Again, I'm not going to talk much about it here because I'm not about to give anything away, but she is SO cool. She's a beautiful strong Na'vi and a terrific role model for girls. I emoted with her more than I did most human characters this year. She was my favorite part.

3. Is the story original? Not really, but nothing is anymore. As the old saying goes "There's 12 stories in Hollywood", the trick is in telling one of the 12 stories different than the last thousand people. And with the terrific characters and the unique universe Cameron made, that was easy.

4. Was there a "green" message? Sure, but it wasn't nearly as annoying and obtrusive as say "Wall-E" was last year. Rather, it was mostly confined to a couple lines. And I didn't exactly buy what my friend's brother claimed either, that it was anti-military. They were mercenaries. Mercenaries are rarely painted as good guys in popular culture.

8.5/10 for me, easily.

If we re-live the movie with our gifted minds of imagination, we can actually see the real life of the blue natives and the absolute realism of the fantasy creatures up close with familiar animal features in sound, size and colour. Cinema technology needs catching up to meet the director's imagination. If there was a high definition 3D plasma TV as big as IMAX then it would be like going to Disneyland without leaving your seat. Man's forest destruction with industrial and military machines would only bring out mother nature's alien deadlier hidden secrets that is beyond human reasoning, such as giant creatures of myth and legends. Watching scifi fantasy where alien nature can be bigger than Earth's nature - can unlock the healing power of the mind to boost a healthy immune system. Disease can be a terrible inescapable prison and watching Avatar more than once could very well be the answer where doctors, schoolteachers and pyschologists use written or spoken word to explain their thoughts. I believe visual thoughts, such as the creatures in Avatar can bring positive feelings using our imagination because imagination is responsible for turning dreams into reality, such as the invention of electricity.

I adored this movie. I felt like I was watching a Sheri Tepper novel that had been simplified and turned into a movie. It was amazing. Now, the characters and the storyline were not very elaborate, and everything was very black-and-white, but it was a storyline and a world-type that I am so fond of that I loved it regardless. The visuals, of course, were INCREDIBLE. A world in which the life-forms display so much bio-luminescence is quite possibly one of the most beautiful things someone could possibly create. Talking about it nearly makes me want to leave for a theater and see it again right now.
