Thread: The Dying Light
Name: Austin Townsend
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 180 pounds
Appearance: Tall, with broad shoulders, strong arms, a dashing smile, and pitch black wavy locks that he keeps tied back in a neat ponytail at the nape of his neck, Austin is quite the catch. The complete physical opposite of his sister in every way except for the black hair and the almond-shaped eyes, though his are a lighter shade of blue than hers. His mouth is more full than hers, though definitely not feminine, his brow higher and his jaw stronger. His face is always kept cleanshaven and it takes awhile for his whiskers to start appearing, so he doesn't have to shave that often.
His clothes are simple as well, with only two shirts and two heavily-patched pairs of breeches to his name, along with a heavy overcoat in winter and worn, black boots. He also has a heavily-worn and dirty tricorn hat that he wears when he travels in the colder months to cover his head. His weapon of choice is a crudely made heavy sabre, which he carries with him at all times. Though he and his sister live in Keyes now and don't see violence like those in the Bulwark, the settlement he and his sister grew up in, Beacon, was part of the Bulwark, and thus he was taught to fight at an early age.
Personality: Austin and his sister were the town troublemakers, though neither one of them seemed to mind the title. Austin kept his good nature throughout his teenage years. Even during the hard times that came, he continued his positive attitude, his funloving nature shining through. He enjoys being witty and sarcastic, and is full of expression when he talks. He can be serious when the situation calls for it, though unless the subject is dismal and depressing, he usually musters a smile. He's confident, but not cocky, and tends to draw people like a magnet. He's smart and enjoys intelligent debates as well as silly conversation. However, Austin does tend to hold grudges against those who have wronged him. He's extremely protective of his family and of his twin sister, Darcy.
Background: For Austin's early history, see his sister Darcy's profile.
Austin was never very comfortable with Darcy's "gift" of being able to hear others' thoughts, mostly because a lot of the time, his thoughts were the ones being read, as he was around Darcy the most. When she did, he always felt his privacy a little invaded. He was generally good natured about it, but he couldn't deny he didn't care for it much. After she began to take to it a lot, wearing those earrings everywhere under her scarf, Austin grew to accept it. That was, until, the people of Celdon decided she was a witch and tried to harm her. Fearful for his sister's life, he took her and fled to Keyes, where he thought they would be safe, unknown. He pleaded with his sister to take the earrings off, to smash them or burn them or in the very least sell them again. But she wouldn't hear of it. And he'd been forced to accept it, though he did coach her on how to be careful with it, as best as he could.
When Darcy began to lose her hearing, however, Austin was almost as devastated as Darcy. Their bond went deep and he felt her pain as his own. He attempted to help her learn to lip read and she became somewhat skilled at it before she lost her hearing entirely. After she went deaf, Austin came to the bitter realization that it was the strange pair of earrings that had destroyed his sister's hearing. Distraught with guilt that he'd brought this upon his sister, he demanded that she stop wearing them immediately. She did, for a month. But when her hearing didn't improve, and the physician that examined her told them it never would, she began wearing them again, simply because they allowed her to hear something in the silence.
Unable to accept this, Austin became determined to find the original owner of these cursed earrings. Working for years to save up what little tradeable goods he possibly could, Austin then set out on his own, leaving his sister in Keyes, to search for the original owner. He traveled for months, tracking the earrings' owners back to nine years previously, at times losing hope, but never giving up. His journey has finally brought him to a man named Jeadro Friel in Celdon, to whom he had tracked the path of the earrings. With the hope that he has finally found the original owner, Austin set out at once to find him.
