  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lest we forget, no atheist here has claimed that god does not exist. You claim he does. Burden of proof has always been on you.

It appears that there is a misconception about the definition of Atheism.

I'll reiterate the definition.

An Atheist is one who rejects the belief in Deities.


Atheism is NOT a worldview.
Atheism is NOT a belief system.
Atheism is NOT a religion.
Atheism is NOT a set of ethics.

Atheism has as much to do with morality, science or religion as a ham sandwich has to do with a bicycle.

Any attempt to make Atheism synonymous with anything else is is simply presumptuous misleading and fallacious.

For the n-th time - I have not claimed that God does not exist. I have clarified this several times already.

It was a definition involving a lack of BELIEF in the existence of gods, not about the existence of gods itself.

I don't think there is evidence for gods, I don't think belief based on a lack of evidence is ever justifiable, ergo, I lack belief in gods. Perfectly simple, but it still eludes you.

This conversation is definitely over. You have evidently not been paying attention since the first statement.

Answer-No evidence.

Both.

No evidence neither confirms nor denies things.

However, a lack of evidence suggests that (the) thing does not exist.

A christian can not rightfully claim that gods exist, yet they do make this claim.

A strong Atheist can not rightfully claim that gods do not exist, yet they do make this claim.

There is NO evidence for deities.

Therefore

The only reasonable position is to dismiss the belief in deities until we have some evidence.

Beliefs in these matters is purely personal.
