We don't know if evidence for God exists or not. However if it does exist, until we see it we can not justifiably claim God exists.
Kinda like your stance on Leprechauns. You don't know if evidence exists or not, however since you haven't seen any, you don't hold a positive belief in the existence of Leprechauns.
You assume they don't exist because there is no evidence but their is no evidence for the non existence of either leprechauns or our Lord. It is best to say, I don't "know" if God exists, and this would change the definition of atheist to agnostic. And Hence would correct this error.
